Real heavy Indian accent. I asked his name and he said "Rick Brown". My response was not too many people born in India named Rick Brown! He said he wanted me to turn my computer on and he would fix a problem. He said my computer is downloading corrupt files. I did not oblige. What's up with this scam?
P.S. When I answered the phone he called me by my first name.

Yeah, I had one on the phone for 7-10 minutes a few weeks ago. He would "direct" me through the prompts on my computer and when he'd say "okay now a box will pop up to enter information" I'd tell him nothing popped up.
We went through this 4 times before he figured out I was bullshitting him.

I'll bet at this very moment there's a dude in Bangladesh named Maruf ordering thousands of dollars worth of Air Jordans using a CC with your name on it.

Are you the guy who ran up against his Comcast data cap in three days? Better let him fix your problem.

The last time a guy called running this scam, I turned him on speaker and asked him if downloading gang bang and horse porn could cause the file corruption. I went into detail about the porn, trying to engage him as much as possible in a discussion about raunchy and disgusting sex acts. He hung up after he heard my entire office laughing at him.
(we already talk about disgusting stuff in my office and everyone knew what was up, so no calls from HR for me)

The only way to stop the scammers is to cost them money and the way that you cost them money is to keep them on the phone.

quote:frick. That's not good. Sounds like someone has started collecting the names, phone numbers, and possibly even the addresses of homeowners in each city across the country and compiling them into a widely available publication.
P.S. When I answered the phone he called me by my first name.

It is always great to keep them going and when they start asking how to spell the fake name you just gave them, you say F....U.....C.....K....Y....O....U....
I've gotten all the way through the spelling a few times before they figured it out

i've gotten several calls these guys. i spent about five minutes last time talking to a similarly accented individual who was trying to convince me that his name was eric. we had a nice back and forth about how that was definitely not his name. he eventually hung up.

I had one of these calls a few weeks ago. Indian guy said there were issues with my computer and he needed to fix them. I immediately asked him if he wanted my credit card number in order for him to get this fixed. He paused for a second, then proceeded to say he could not take it, or he would get fired. I then continued to troll him until he eventually said sorry to bother, have a nice day, then hung up.

Yep. I got the Ocean View condos scam call a few months ago. I faked an Indian accent. The scammers were in a Spanish speaking country. They always spoof a disconnected number from your area code.
I pretended to be driving so they said they'd call back. Then I gave them my home phone number which was really a Rickroll number. Eventually they called my cell phone again. I knew it was the scammers so I took the phone into the bathroom and took a leak and flushed the toilet while I was talking to them.
I have a lot of tricks I like to use on those idiots.
