El Koubi leftmonce the school board tax failed. Hard to pursue economic development when the parish voted they're fine with 30 year old butler buildings

I agree. I thought it a curiously odd thing to pop up on my Facebook feed and see it as an article about a topic being discussed in a Lafayette chamber of commerce meeting today.

I like to think at least 10-20% of me is not, but maybe I'm being a bit overly optimistic.

Nothing personal. I'm sure your city can take care of itself.

Lafayette / Acadiana area people are some of the most insecure I have ever met.

There is more cajun in Ville Platte or Kaplan than all of Lafayette. Laffy is no different than Lake Charles or Baton Rouge now. Bunch of oilfield "baws" with their truck nuts.

Only thing remotely "cajun" about Lafayette is the street names.

IT'S NOT CAJUN, just like Lake Charles and Baton Rouge ARE NOT CAJUN!!

The cajun culture does not exist in those cities. They are melting pots. Lafayette and Baton Rouge, and to a lesser extent Lake Charles, have people from all over the country living and working in them. They aren't like Ville Platte, Evangeline, Eunice, Iota, Kaplan, Franklin, etc. that still have that Cajun culture present.

Lafayette doesn't even do the traditional Mardi Gras anymore. The closest they have to the Cajun Culture is Vermilionville.

Got damn, you are fricking stupid. All of this couldn't be more wrong

Lafayette is a great place with many positive things going for it ... and it's run by people who want to turn it into Austin-lite, even though the demographics don't exactly support such a move

Lafayette tries to pretend it's bigger than it actually is. They will never be on par with NOLA, BR, Shreveport. Hell, Metairie has more people than Lafayette.

It's a nice place with a sampling of many different cultures, activities, and lifestyles.

It would benefit them greatly if they picked one thing and focused on it.. instead you have a long list of potential positives that aren't executed well enough when compared to other cities

Really? Do tell then. Lafayette is fake Cajun now. The only reason it gets to pass itself off as Cajun is because it's in the "Hub City" of Acadiana (Oops, South Louisiana).

This is the best way to put it. One day they're gunning for a mini Austin and the next they're thumping their chests with claims of being the heart of Cajun country. Idk what they are at this point but it damn sure isn't Cajun. As an Evangeline parish native id prefer to not be included in Lafayettes Acadiana. EP doesn't have much to offer but if you want to meet real Cajuns and eat Cajun food then you've gone to the rite place. Lafayette should stick to their mini Austin direction because it seems to suite the people there just fine. LOTS of diff. foods, arts, music, and hipsters is all I see when I'm there.

Don't be mad because 90% of Baton Rouge can't even make a roux and make fun of REAL Cajuns, though they want to be called a part of Cajun country, LOL

And I grew up in Baton Rouge, so I can say that!

No, it's just you. I have no idea where you pulled all of that out of. Well, yeah I do. Your arse.

If Lafayette gets to claim all the surrounding rural parishes in that region as a collective whole to present itself as "heavy Cajun", well then so does Baton Rouge on our side of the Atchafalaya. Baton Rouge itself is a hub and a melting pot just like Lafayette is. But again, just like Lafayette, once you start venturing out to the surrounding parishes, you find some heavy Cajun influence.

Nola can claim all the way down to Houma for sure. Foods, accents, and all around culture is the same IMO. I love my Houma peeps, damn good folks down there.

From this I can gather that

1. You seem triggered. Curious, did some Lafayette baw sleep with your wife?
2. You clearly have not been to Ville Platte lately.
3. You obviously do not venture into Lafayette, stopping at a place off the interstate or highway 90 won't give you a feel for anyplace.

But you are correct in that Lafayette is far more diverse in the place of origin of the population than much of Acadiana.
