There is more cajun in Ville Platte or Kaplan than all of Lafayette. Laffy is no different than Lake Charles or Baton Rouge now. Bunch of oilfield "baws" with their truck nuts.
Only thing remotely "cajun" about Lafayette is the street names.

Ok I can buy LC but not BR.....Lafayette has less crime per capita and doesn't have a liberal BLM mayor. Companies are opening in Lafayette (Perficient and CGI) and not moving out and writing off brand new facilities (Albemarle and Amedisys)....comparing Lafayette and BR right now is crazy.

The cajun culture does not exist in those cities. They are melting pots. Lafayette and Baton Rouge, and to a lesser extent Lake Charles, have people from all over the country living and working in them. They aren't like Ville Platte, Evangeline, Eunice, Iota, Kaplan, Franklin, etc. that still have that Cajun culture present.
Lafayette doesn't even do the traditional Mardi Gras anymore. The closest they have to the Cajun Culture is Vermilionville.

The entire world makes a roux. You didn't invent it. It's just browning flour, not rocket science. It's pass fail... People who make soups make rouxs to thicken and they vary in color, depending on what soup they're making, same for sauces. Bechamels.. Roux.. Mornay... Roux... Clam Chowder...roux... Oyster and artichoke... roux... broccoli and cauliflower ... roux.... Gumbo... roux....

I hate the University of America crap. Make it the University of Acadiana and enjoy your proper place.
I must admit I've noticed an attitude from Laffy people toward BR (not NO for some reason). I guess it's b/c of LSU. I can understand it to a degree.
And this isn't something I first saw on TD. I noticed it when I first went to Laffy as a teenager 30 years ago.

For the record, I generally sort of like, and certainly don't "hate", Lafayette (although looking at the downvotes of the OP - which I rarely notice - I certainly triggered the shite out of some baws over there). There's just a certain mindset amongst some of its populace that tickles the hell out of me that seems embodied in things like this.

There is some Cajun culture in Lafayette but your point that it is muted tremendously from what it used to be is true.....it's a product of progress.
