Except it is your problem. It leads to other problems like crime, while also being unpleasant for those that live there, that you end up paying for anyways.

Do you think a no-strings attached homeless shelter is going to not attract thousands of new homeless people to the area? And it's not like them having shelter at night is going to somehow reduce crime. What do you think they're going to be doing during the day? Why would their normal routine be any different? Commit crimes, do drugs, find soft targets to exploit, etc. Now there will just be way more of them.

Houston has an enormous homeless population. Most cities do.

This is true. It really seems to have increased exponentially over the past few years. I've noticed it pretty much everywhere I travel.

Mitch's wife is a nice Monroe girl. I never understood what she saw in trash like him.

No, I don't think this will drive homeless to the area. Have you compared it with programs in other areas? Where is the population going to draw from?

And yes, the less time they are on the street, the less likely they would be to commit crimes or bother tourists. Also removes one of their drivers for doing so.

I'd rather get them off the streets at night and get them access to mental health programs, such is why I said I need to hear more information before judging this.

And as someone living close enough to a homeless program in midtown Houston, the majority aren't venturing too far

Jindal totally gutted the state's mental health system. Where are they supposed to go? I am all for re-institutionalization, but it's not an option right now until we get serious about quality of life issues. This is the next best thing.

Bridge House is funded through donations and their own non-profit stores. It is the last resort available to most homeless addicts.

This is so fricking stupid. If they don't give a frick enough to not be homeless, why are we wasting 1.5 million dollars of taxpayers money to put a roof over their heads?

It may have the unintended consequence of showing kids what happens when you are a constant frick up.

I know you all care about the safety and well being of your children, while trying to advance their education in the classroom. But, um, frick you anyways! We're going to put the lowest of the low around them and pray they don't get raped, stabbed or shot. Oh yea, did I say frick y'all already? If not, frick all of you again!"

The United States overreacted to One Flew Over the Coocoo's Nest places and shut down a lot of helpful services to the mentally ill. Now a lot of them are homeless. It bit us in the arse.

Take all the homeless and congregate them in one place. Try to get them services to help them. Get them off of the street and off panhandling and sleeping out in the middle of the night.

That neighborhood is terrible as it is. The shelter will be more secure and safe than the vast majority of that hood.

Sorry, I was thinking about Martin's wife. Same question applies. Even moreso, because he's not even a mayor, just a shyster lawyer.

Bingo. As much as a I love the movie, I think this is probably the most accurate theory out there.

Republicans like to blame Democrats, and Democrats like to blame Republicans, but at the end of the day, it boils down to the fact that the American public thought such places were awful and allowed them to all be shut down. Little did they realize that there are just a good number of crazy people in this world and if they aren't in an institution they will be living under overpasses in your city.

It's actually a great idea. Get them away from downtown and from living underneath the interstate. The proposed location is in a terrible part of town across S. Claiborne from the Home Depot, next to the Calliope Projects. Well done!

They aren't going to leave downtown. They will remain in tourist areas and the ramps.

How big do you think this is? You really think this is going to be some mecca to the worlds homeless?
