Just chill. shite happens. Last time it happened to me though Alaska Air put us on another plane, we arrived on time. Sometimes you just gotta be appreciative they arent putting you on a broken plane.

Well that is bullshite. Go tell them they should fly no matter what so you dont have to wait a few hours. Better yet, you should fly that plane all by yourself to get you there on time.

I had a flight cancelled from Houston to Baton Rouge late one night.
They said due to Weather, but other flights were rolling.
Truth was that there were only 4 of us on that flight, so they decided to save money and toss our arse on the next morning flight.

It's depressing, isn't it? Wealthy people ain't gotta put up with that shite.

All airplanes break at some point. I've had to cancel, delay, and divert trips for charter trips and for my bosses.

You need to go start shoving people and raising a bunch of hell. According to the news, that's the new normal.

My flight got canceled to Miami. Now I have to wait 5 hours for another flight and I am going to have one day of my trip ruined. Is there any way to get refunded any money from American airlines? I don't fly much, so I have no idea. Maybe i should start throwing punches and be on tv

I'm betting you scoffed when you were offered trip insurance. Now, you're reaping the rewards of being a cheapass.

You'll get nothing from me but my scorn!

I mean you can try to get your money back. I guess it wouldn't work, but I promise you that you won't. That's just the risk of airplane tickets. Just get really drunk, and start your trip at the airport. Make the best of it and don't let this ruin your day.

Now my new flight is delayed. Paying for a day that won't happen. I'm stuck in ohio instead of being in Florida.

If it was mechanical they should have given you vouchers for a meal at the least. Not sure about anything else but write them an email and see what u get. I got $100 voucher because the entertainment system failed on a flight between HNL and LAX earlier this year

Find someone at the desk and tell them to refund your flight. Anything over 2 hrs is pretty much cancellable. Its called a trip in vain.

Eta: I'm assuming you're not flying out of new orleans because all of americans flights to mia/clt/dfw have left this morning

Southwest gave me a $200 voucher last year when they cancelled one of my flights last year due to a non weather event, I was using them weakly at the time though. I'd have a non confrontational conversation with the agent at the ticket counter to see what they'll do for you, flying commercial is awesome until it isn't.

5 hours isn't that bad. I had that not too long ago for a maintenance issue as well. Post on Social Media about how shitty the airline is, they will hit you back telling you to fill out a complaint form, do it and get your bag fees refunded, if any, plus likely a $100+ voucher. That's likely the best you will do.

in my experience, delays of that length are pretty common when using air travel...and I avoid air travel anytime I can for that very reason.

fact is, there is nothing that you can do about it, so just relax and go with the flow...they will get you there by the end of the day. when you look at it realistically, air travel sucks balls, but there is no faster way to get somewhere.

now, just go and find yourself a place to relax and don't let this ruin your vacation before it even gets started.

ETA: remember, you'll be in Florida tomorrow...the rest of us will be sitting home.

Last time this happened to us heading to Miami/Keys Southwest gave each of us a $200 voucher (4 of us traveling so $800 combined). We recently used this to book this years vacation flights. It's good for up to a year. They offered them to all passengers before anyone even asked. I was impressed.
