Well, most of that post is terrifying. Thanks.

Couple months ago I fell asleep on the couch with my contacts on. Woke up and took them out....intense pain immediately to my left eye. Got worse over the next day so went to eye doctor.

Scratched my cornea. Had to take drops for a week. Yeah...don't fall asleep with contacts.

That's why I quit wearing mine... I would sleep with them on after working at the bar and rip them out in my slumber without washing my hands!

How long were you asleep? I crashed for a couple hours by accident and woke up to my eyes feeling a little weird. Didn't take out my contacts though... just kept them in until bedtime.

Yankee....I just wear my contacts and with regular sunglasses
I just don't want to have to worry about carrying around regular glasses if I'm not wearing contacts, this is all kinds of bullshite with the logistics...

I can totally see how little things like lying on the couch would be irritating in glasses. That's exactly the kind of thing that I hate. Dammit.

I've been wearing glasses since I was 17. Never really had a problem and it's painless and practically just another body part to me.

Seriously, there's some frames out there for guys that don't look too bad. If you're opposed to those you could always look into LASIK. I'm having that done in October.

Yeah. I probably danced by that one in ignorance. Glad I didn't rip them out. This is going to be a problem for me. I survive by quick 1-2 hour naps here & there. I depend on my 1 hour nap daily in car pool line.

Worn glasses/contacts all my life. Just went into bifocals last year and that was the hardest thing in the world to get used to. I can't imagine how people ever get used to trifocals.

Why not progressives?

If you spend a lot of time at the computer, get a single vision set for whatever your viewing distance is, 24" - 28" being pretty typical. Definitely get the anti-glare coating. I hate the typical polycarbonate for computer use due to color aberration in peripheral vision, but this is minimized by going with plastic, AKA CR-39, which is available at eyebuydirect.com.

If you know what frames shapes look good, as well as the dimensions that work for you (frame width, bridge width, lens height, etc), the online places can save you a shitload of money and give outstanding results. I've been using Zenni and Eyebuydirect.com for the last seven years or so. Perhaps the freedom to do some surgeries will make optometrists hate me less.

Jet my husband is the same way.

He is blind as a bat without glasses/contacts. He hates me seeing pictures of him as a kid before he got contacts because his eyesight was so bad that he had some serious coke bottle glasses as a kid and was teased a lot at school about it.

I don't know why he hasn't gotten LASIK yet.

Contacts can bite me. Though it's been many years since I've worn them, before I rub my eyes, I still pause and wonder if my contacts are in.

You've got nothing to worry about if you're responsible. Just realize the things they'll tell you are for good reason and not just for fun.

The worst is when they roll behind your eyes and you just have to relax until they roll back to where you can take them out.

Still a freaky feeling when that happens.

Is rubbing your eyes bad with contacts bc I do this all the time.

Yankee - this might actually be a useful Rant help thread. Apparently, I've been doing everything wrong for 2 weeks.

I always recommend flushing with solution or using rewetting drops before taking them out in this case. Taking out a dry lens can be wildly painful. I'm fortunate to have never abraised my cornea. I feel for you.
