So, Amazon and online shopping is taking over, why are mall parking lots still packed?

Mall of Louisiana is a madhouse on weekends, yet we hear how malls are a dying breed. Are we still not a 100% online consumer base?

People still use the mall as a "babysitter".

I still go to the mall by my house. I prefer clothes and shoe shopping in person so I can try them on. Same thing with makeup and beauty products (go to any Sephora in the mall...always packed for this reason). Or...I can try them on and then order them online if I can get them cheaper that way.

Also....if you live someplace where they have a really nice mall...it's not so bad. Mall by my house...they won't tolerate trash loitering in the mall. Security will kick them out with a quickness.

I think that might be because BR only has one mall now

During the day it is full of soccer moms getting their new pair luluemons to wear at Whole Foods and to Starbucks.

In the afternoon and middays on the weekends it is teenagers.

Once the sun starts to go down ... it gets dark (if you know what I mean).

Because there will remain a use for them. You may see a change in the makeup of malls with more restaurants added and products/stores changing a bit. But as far as I can see people are always going to need/want to go see or try on some of the things they are buying, get out of the house, may need something immediately, or simply just browse. Not every single purchase we make requires the efficiency and sterility of online shopping.

Some malls are still thriving, but i've noticed the ones in the Baller areas are dying a slow death.

For the same reason why movie theaters are still packed despite having Netflix, Hulu, etc. People still like to leave the house to do things.

Malls in Georgia are empty, except for the few Mega-Malls. And even in those cases, it's alot of people window shopping so they can go home and order it online.
