Give it time my friend.

Honestly, I really dont see how Hollywood can keep this up. You always will have your occasional "blockbuster film" per year, but overall movies seem to be mediocre.

They know that if internet service could ever seal the deal with day one releases, its game over (at least for the current model of movie theaters).

That said, I have seen plenty of theaters that are dinner-movie oriented or are part of another attraction.

the next thing is going to be high end movie theathers that show older movies on the big screen

i don't give a shite what's playing as long as it it's good. it's the movie popcorn, the drinks, the big screen that make the movie not so much teh movie itself.

i'd happily drop what i'm doing to night, to take the woman out to see.....boogie nights, at the movies tonight if they served a half arse good steak and potato

Don't forget being able to see it on a massive screen with great sound.

I actually thought about pointing that out, but I knew I was going to get 37 OT replies about how I'm poor because I don't have an IMAX theater in my house

A lot of these theaters already do this.

I saw Gone with The Wind on the big screen for the 75th anniversary. Many theaters in the summer will show older movies for daytime matinee features, etc.

Taking a wife and three kids to the movies is very easily a $150 affair. See one movie every three months and you're pushing $600. If you were offered a service to watch day-one movies at home for $50 per month then you're not paying anymore but you'd get to watch it multiple times with all the conveniences of home.

And then people would rip them from the streaming service and distribute them for free.

I think you seriously underestimate how important it is for the movie industry to keep new release movies out of the hands of pirates. They've invested millions in technology and methodology in keeping new release movies from leaking out of theaters. The last thing they're going to do is just hand over that movie content to everyone.
