Meh, if you stay two years that should be enough.

I stayed in Louisiana for 4 years after graduation from LSU and got legit experience from state government but got shite on in regards to pay and a fricking layoff. You need to get real..people should pay it back if they lose it before 2 yrs in school.

Hell it wasn't that much anyway, it will be the only time I will take gov't $$

And what if no jobs are to be had in the state of Louisiana? Should graduates just stay unemployed?

TOPS should be reformed by making it a waiver type system. Loans are taken out by the student, upon timely and GPA sufficient graduation they are paid in full by TOPS. If not, loans would be at whatever the current stafford loan rates are going for at the time.

The problem with funding these universities is that it is so political. Universities really would prefer not to have to deal with students at all if they didn't have to. Students are just a means to an end. If they get a 10% cut, you can damn well bet the administration is going to claim the sky is falling. Then, they will make sure that those cuts are noticeable. The first things they will cut will be landscaping, instructors, and numbers of sections of important classes people need to graduate. Next is services for students like careers to geaux, advising, counseling, scheduling, campus events for students, ect. Basically, anything that will make it hurt for students while not touching administration or tenured faculty.

The point of this is to make people angry and upset to get them to vote to protect these budgets. The last thing administration wants is to have less money.

Don't forget to merge SU-Shreveport in with NWSU and to merge SUNO and UNO.

Oh and you don't need three separate 4-year university systems, one should do.

The problem is the number of 4-year state universities isn't proportionate to the population of Louisiana. Until the fat is trimmed, we'll keep running into this problem every couple of years

Fine. But match it with something related to retention. 2 years, whatever. The state should not pay to educate that many people to have them turn around and leave. That is not beneficial.

Yes, many agree and it's a non-starter.

I'm not sure that it'a ALL we need to do, but it sure would be a step in the right direction.

LSU is so poorly funded that it's a disgrace, and I think it actually got worse under Jindal's tenure as governor.

This would be one of the best things that could happen. That's why it's not going to happen.
