Then you do just that!!

Look, if this was any other state school I might feel differently. But nothing bad will happen to the flagship university. If athletics suffer it will be a punitive move by the LSU admins. Nothing else.

Louisiana should just cut higher ed entirely and use the money to train more plant operators and roughnecks.

So let me get this straight the article states that only 13% of LSU's revenue comes from the state and the worse case scenario is 82% of this 13% will get cut.

So the president of LSU expects me to believe that if the LSU system loses 10.7% of its overall budget that the flagship university may have to close for a year.

And here I thought my 2y/o daughter was a drama queen.

you are really asking if they will just shut down LSU? Has that ever happened in the US to any school of that size ever?

In the long run, LSU would come out on top if we could just get rid of the multiple obsolete universities in the state

Trim fat and add majors that are in high demand. I'm still laughing that it took LSU over 150 years to come up with an energy minor and energy mba focus

Exactly, they are just playing this up because they think people will only see the 82% and think LSU will go under when all they have to do it raise tuition 10% or so and nothing will change. Politics as usual.

This is why LSU will see skyrocketing tuition over the next few years. Alabama has sucked at this for years and tuition at Auburn is STUPID high.

It would never happen but it quite frankly wouldn't break my heart for LSU to be as divorced as possible from the whims of dumbass state politicians and their even more dumbass constituents.

No they just need to cut TOPS. What are the stats that show the state retention on that investment?
