A guy at my firm represents lots of HOA's.
Call and talk to the attorney (or attorney assistant). Explain that you sent a check, but that they never cashed it. Explain that you did not receive any notices, but you will pay the regular amount that day.
They will take that most likely. Attorney are on retainer for the HOA's so he has been paid for the time already. Appearing in court will be a waste of time, so they will let you pay to avoid this.
The development is new and the HOA is still the builder who bought all the land. It will turn over soon when full, so really the HOA one company, not my neighbors.
