My wife and I are looking to take a vacation the week of thanksgiving. Deciding to bypass family and do the solo thing.

We were both pretty set on Jackson hole but I see that their “ski season” opens on nov 25th which will probably be the day we head back. Do they ski before the official season starts?

Sounds like you won’t be. But yes, “they” do. Heli and Snowcat tours will start before the resort opens. Or you can get a touring setup and some skins...

November is probably the worst time to visit that area, summer activities are long over and winter hasn't started. May might be a little worse because of the mud.

But you'll probably find some cheap hotel rates.

Most people find it's better described as "skiing" before ski season, than skiing before "ski season".

Wait until Christmas and ski JH. It is worth the trip.

Google earliest ski seasons. I am actually in a similar boat with early December ski trip possibly happening. Looking hard at Keystone.

Early in the season this is probably your best bet. If you want the ski town atmosphere...stay in Breckenridge and commute

Perhaps you should find a location where the season opens the previous week.

Sunshine Village (near Banff Alberta) opens the 10th of Nov. it’s pretty easy to get to (fly into Calgary and drive to Banff).

They have some back country style runs (goat eye mountain) on separate lifts and a good mix of difficulties on the main area.

Look at A-Basin I'd make a bet they have snow either now or very soon.
