I recall that too. I was living in Lafayette at the time. Things were getting pretty ugly out in the gulf. I can't remember what was done to calm down the Gringos, but they were definitely up in arms.

Honestly, I think they figured out it was futile. Anyone willing to hop on a little skiff and push out into the ocean for a better life isn't gonna be deterred by some soft arse white dudes shooting at them over some shrimp. This is all coming from a office working white dude.

Probably right. They'd just come from a country that had been in some kind of war for about a thousand years. What's a little bird shot over the bow?
