Shower shoes @ gym vs shower shoes in hotel...?

So, I forgot my flippy-floppies today and showered bare footed at the gym (I know, I am a disgusting human). Anyway, got to thinking: what's the difference between showering at the gym barefooted vs in a hotel shower?
Note: this is a small single person bathroom/shower setup at a small local gym, not a locker room setting.

OT Ballers only stay in 5 star hotels where the bathrooms are sterilized daily by trained hazmat personnel. No shower shoes necessary.
