Also, welfare recipients should be required to show proof that they're working full time (40 hours a week). If they're not employed for 40 hours a week, they do community service that adds up to 40 hours combined between their jobs and service hours.
This is fair. Especially the community service part. If someone is going to just take take take, then they need to be giving back in some way.

I think every woman on welfare should be required to take birth control and I think every man should be required to sign documents where they pledge not to father children while on welfare. i have an easier, less expensive plan. Drastically cut welfare and make people rely on charity or working.

Every legal US citizen should be born with 25k in their "account". You are eligible to use it when you turn 18. This money can be used any way you want , college/food/rent/emergency fund, etc. but that is all you get during your life. It's your safety net during hard times but lifetime govt payments won't happen as well as payments to incentivize welfare babies. Legitimate disability cases excluded from limit. Sometimes an adult needs to be a little hungry to push them into employment. I learned that firsthand during college.

Very different times. My grandparents had 6 kids and a farm. They were poor and couldn't pay hospital bills when the kids were born. To pay off their hospital bills, they furnished the hospital with eggs and chicken for the cafeteria.
They also lived within their means. Hand-me-down clothes for the kids, patched up clothes when needed. No big vacations, just a trip to Biloxi every couple of years. My grandma learned to give the kids haircuts to save money.
Today's "welfare" people have smart phones, the latest name brand shoes, extravagant birthday parties for all their kids, hair and nails done, etc.
It's completely different from the way things used to be.

I'm Cajun and grew up with tons of poor people. No one is living this way. You are defining the "black welfare queen". Most people are not vacationing, are wearing Walmart shoes, eating cheap unhealthy food, barely getting a tacky sheet cake for birthdays, and forget about hair & nails unless done in the home themselves. They probably have an smartphone...those are practically free if you want a model several years old.

Did not read all 5 pages so sorry if already posted.

People who are poor are usually in the situation because they do not show the ability to make long term decisions.

The govt should offer a $35,000 check to any male willing to get an irreversible vasectomy.

Poor people would sign up in droves.

Short term $$ loss. Long term $$$ gain.

Problem eventually solved.

Why irreversible? If the get on their own two feet and are financial capable what's wrong with having the procedure done to untie it so they can have kids?

Small government conservative, eh?

Small meaning less government which includes less welfare, not more. Get it now?

I'm all for helping those truly in need, but if you cannot take care of yourself without welfare you damn sure shouldn't be creating more dependents for others to support.

Umm no we haven't! We have cut educational spending! Most recent do you remember TOPS?

I will guarantee you our education spending is higher than ever. We fully funded TOPS this year, btw. Check out the libraries in EBR. They are like the Taj Mahal.
