The only beef I've got is; I think they should have fun a little longer. Development is all over the map at that age.

Half the kids see 5 pitches and sit down. They never get to part of the game.

Earliest we ever did kid pitch or pitching machine was 7 yr olds. Dixie Youth 7-8 yr old league was kid pitch for a long time and recently is split, pitching machine first half, kid pitch second half of the season.

6 year old kids shouldn't be hitting off of anything except a tee. Unless they are 6 playing up in. 7-8 coach pitch league.

Travel ball is ruining everything.

Stupid little league parents.
Be sure they are in a three state travel ball team by age 8 . Will be burnt out by age 11.
Keep up the good work

nope, should be up to 65-75mph by now

That's waaaaay too fast, and it will do nothing but discourage them and hinder their future development.

My kids are 6, playing their 3rd year. The first 3 games were off the tee and all since have been coaches pitch. Most of the kids are doing well and very few use the tee after 5 pitches.

Never been a fan of machine pitch.. They are usually not maintained, therefore inaccurate and don't teach kids at early age to track the arm and ball correctly.. My youngest does a hybrid at 6... Three swings from a coach and then a whack of the tee if you don't hit it..

And yes.. 40 is to high a speed unless its pushed back a ways..

My son starts pitching machine ball in the fall. I think it is 2 young. He is playing up because of where his bday falls but he will be almost thru his 2nd season before he turns 7. I personally think it is to young but I want him to play a laid back fall season of machine pitch before he jumps right into a tough spring season. Around here fall ball is a lot more laid back.

Local league here is 4-6 hybrid. 3 pitches from coach then 2 off the tee. Not sure 6 is ready for 40mph.

My kid's 6 year old team is hitting from a pitching machine, but it barely throws 25 mph.
They get 3 swings from the machine, then 2 from the tee.
Only 2 kids on the team (my kid being one of them) have made contact with the ball from the machine.
Next year, I think they go to machine only.

You're going to get a lot of people saying yes they need to learn ect....

But as a coach of multiple teams ages 7-12 I think 40mph at 6 is too fast. They are going to learn bad habits as many of them struggle just to swing that bat at that age.

They really should be in coaches pitch not machine, but if they are on a machine it should be more like 30 or 32, not 40. How far away is the machine?

I came back to LA to watch my nephew play a couple weeks ago. He is 6 playing up with the 7-8 year olds. Their machine is set on 42 mph. A few of the kids struggle to hit it but most can knock the shite out of it. My 6 year old nephew is not a big kid but he put the bat on the ball all 3 at bats. Point is, 3 weeks ago I would have said that 40ish mph is way too fast for a kid that age. But now that I've seen it is say no, not really
