you should be able to tailor your trek to snow closer to your dates.

east of the misssippi, your sure thing is in the appalachians.

west of the mississippi, depends on the weather the two days before your trip.

Ozark's could be great.

You can start by using NOAA.gov and look at the snow cover now and keep up with it.

You should consider buying jacket and one pair of long underwear for each person.
snow is going to mean colder weather

There's really no way to tell now. It could be an 8 hour or 16 hour drive depending on recent weather conditions. You should just keep an eye on the weather in the days leading up.

Once you get to the Knoxville area it is one beautiful drive through the mountains.

Be sure to use Waze while in Virginia, their State Police wrote the book when it comes to speedtraps.

So how much time does a 4 year old get off for Mardi Gras? Do they have the whole week or just Fat Tuesday?

One other thing...there is a small ski resort that has a kid friendly sledding park.

The skiing is not great but for a kid it would be fun

Winterplace Ski Resort

per google maps, the ski resort is 13hr 8mins from BR

Well, I kinda figured that. But this, THIS...is the OT. Where knowledge and ignorance are one in the same.

For guaranteed snow this far out, Taos Ski Valley NM is the closest. They have a tubing hill and other stuff to do besides skiing.

It's one of my favorite places... set up like a Swiss alpine village and they get dumped on later in the winter.

Live from Taos

New Mexico, but it's not a days drive unless you push the heck out of it and snow might be iffy.

It really isn't that great in terms of quality skiing (it can be rather packed and icy) but young kids would love tubing down the hills they have
