Shell station at Airline and Highland

Was my favorite because of location and consistently cheap gas. Now it's gone - razed to the ground. Anyone know if they're going to rebuild?

Damn! I haven't been that way in a while so I had no idea about this! It was a good station because they always had great prices!

I may be imagining this but I thought that land was going to become a school or something

Stopped there for gas on May 31st. Said they were going to be closed June 1 and coming back in September (I think).

intersection of 2 major highways seems like a weird place to put a school

Was pretty unexpected to see it gone one morning.
That being said it was kind of shitty as a gas station and needed a major remodel or replacement.

Pass that way to work everyday. I went to work at 7am I think it was last Friday and it was there. Came home from work at 4:00 and it was gone. Kinda crazy. Lol. They have a street that they built that connects airline to highland and it looks like they are going to be building businesses down that street.

It went down fast. I pass it on my way to work. Not sure what is going up in it's place.

Unless they start pulling tanks out of the ground, I would imagine another gas station will be going back there.

Yeah, I was headed to P-ville Friday with the intention of filling-up there because they generally have the cheapest gas along the corridor. Started slowing down, put on my turn signal....NOPE! Damn thing was a pile of rubble & twisted metal. Had just been there a week or two before. Kinda blew my mind.

Anything happening at Barringer & Airline? Wasn't Rouses thinking of opening there?

Also, I'm so glad that the split at Jefferson and Tiger Bend is history, and when will the Stumberg extension be complete?

This. Because pulling those tanks is a process. EPA/DEQ get involved.

Known back in the day as "Decapitation Point" because of all the fatal wrecks.

I have driven Jefferson to Tiger bend daily for the last 7 years and have never seen a wreck there.

Tore it down to rebuild a newer bigger gas station. Supposed to tie in with that side street that runs behind it now.

Not any more.
Back in the day when it was a poorly lit two lane Y, it was a pretty common occurrence.

Yeah! I hate that horrible yield section. Break your neck to look and try and see who is coming.
I saw in the paper recently that Salsbury Dodge bought land at corner of Airline and Barringer Foreman. Must be on the same side as Kleinpeter. Yeah, another car dealership. The closing of the old Woman's Hospital will create more decay to creep down Airline so I guess Salsbury sees a move in their future.
