Three Rivers Independent School District trustees voted 6-0 on the motion, with one trustee absent. The policy states only a campus’ behavior coordinator or principal can administer the disciplinary measure at their discretion. Three Rivers ISD students, whose parents have provided written and verbal consent, will receive one paddling for his or her infraction when they misbehave at school. Three Rivers ISD CP Policy Parents will be able to decide, upon registering their children for the upcoming school year, whether they want to opt in or out.

Anyone have kids in a public school district that allows paddling still?

Good. Negative reinforcement is a powerful tool. I got my arse lit up in elementary and middle school

Even if it were allowed, I sure as heck wouldn't want to be the one who has to paddle the kids.

It is allowed at our schools, Desoto County, Ms. There is a parent option to alow it, allow it after a call to the parent or not allow it at all.
We chose to allow it with a call before it being administered.

No joke. Those nuns were pros at it. Sr. Nell had a paddle with holes drilled in it. That thing would whistle as she was swinging it.

I'd be much more concerned about the mental illness.

I went to a relatively small private school in South LA. Our mascot was the Rebels and our principal had a big arse paddle with a confederate flag carved into it. When you got in big trouble you'd have stars and bars bruises on your arse for a few days

K-12 and not a single year went by where I didn't catch a few licks for something I did. If they had it in college I'm sure I would have gotten them there too.

So, it had no effect on your behavior?

I'm not a fan, I don't think the kids honestly learn anything from spanking other than to be aggressive. I know spankings never worked for me, i'd much rather one of those and get it over with than be grounded or anything.

The problem is of course the parents. Bad behavior at school should be corrected by good parenting at home, but many times that's not the case.

Spanking by the teacher just seems to be a way to say "we did something at least", but I don't think it actually corrects bad behavior.

I have two of the most polite, well mannered kids I've ever seen and that's not just parent talk - I'm constantly complimented on them. I'm also an engaged parent though and I think that has a lot to do with it, I've maybe spanked them twice a piece in their life.

I can't speak for him but for me spankings never had an effect on my behavior. If I got in trouble and had to take a belt to the arse that's super quick and then it's over.

I always preferred a spanking over being really punished. When given the choice between detention at 6am or paddling, I would take three licks all day.

Same here. Give me the licks all day over in-school suspension.

Also there are way too many weirdos in this world - no way I give permission for another adult to spank my child's arse this day and age.

They learn that if someone is doing something that you deem inappropriate an appropriate reaction is to hit them.

It's insane that people think this is "okay"

Teachers spanking?

Leaves the teachers open to a host of shite to come down on them.

I will gladly go to school and spank my kids
