Does the nhc record an exact lat/long for landfall for historical records/data or just an approximate location?
They'll do their best to get the location exact, especially with the number of storm chasers in the region collecting data plus a fair number of weather stations in a populated area like that will help.
For the official records they're going to want to do better than "near Gulf Shores".

I was wondering if we will ever know if it exactly was right over a familiar place or landmark so next time I visit, I will attempt to go there. I am a geography and map freak.

It won't be landmark exact, but they'll get this one pretty accurately done in the off season review. Quite a few chasers got in the eye and more had data recording equipment in the area. Gulf Shores actually has options for safe locations to be on the coast for a landfall vs let's say Cameron Parish.

As an example, here is the NHC's best track for Hurricane Ivan from the official report. This is leading up to and including landfall and immediately after:

The official report on Sally won't be available until sometime in the off season.

Thank you Legend. Very interesting info. I will dig a little deeper into nhc/NOAA website.

I was in Ft Morgan all day yesterday after they cleared to roads. Lots of roof damage. Cell phone tower is across the Road on Veterans. Every power pole between Sassy Bass and Heritage Shores is snapped in half. Somehow I only lost 1 oyster cage that I could confirm. Still haven’t gotten into the water yet. Finally was allowed to my house on West Beach this morning. 59 was a Lake all day yesterday. I’ve got a hole in the roof and lost all the siding on the east side. It’s ugly down here. No power for 3-4 weeks and no water South of 180. Just got cell service back. Will post pics later.

I’m almost on the expressway, what unit do you have? I can give it a look
Appreciate it, but I just checked it out. All clear in-unit, but there’s some building damage.

Anyone in Spanish fort daphne not have power yet? If you need a place to shower and a cold beer let me know.

Can’t see inside, but there’s water in the hall. Doesn’t mean anything though, since there’s water on most of the third floor without it getting inside the units.

Saw the power company near our house in Fairhope. Shouldn't be long now hopefully.

10 day curfew in GS and OB for residents only. I’ve got a crew coming from Mouton Cove in the morning with supplies as they have a beach house in Ft Morgan. Getting in the water tomorrow on the farm to check on oysters. No gas or an hour wait to get gas all the way to 10. It’s a mess but we’ll rebuild stronger and better.

Damn I thought this thread was gone. Glad it’s still here. Here’s what I said in the other thread... if anyone cares lol
Still without power in Loxley, Daphne area. Just ate conecuh and hot dogs sitting in my truck totaled truck, charging my phone, watching bball. Yard is still so far from finished. Trees everywhere. Millions in baldwin county. I have driven all through Daphne and fairhope and it’s so bad. Looks like tons of heavy tornadic activity, but I assume some (if not most) of that is from really strong gusts from the eyewall. It’s still surreal.
Does anyone have updates figures on Sally? I just saw someone post they saw 121mph in Fort Morgan. My in laws in south fhope were in one of the worst zones. Wood line behind his house is gone, had to be tornado
Sorry is this the thread for this? Lol we’re still hurting and my mind is still spinning

Mailman is that boat salvageable? Hope the repairs are relatively quick.
Posted on 9/17/20 at 8:26 pm to AU_251
Yes absolutely — glad you’re at least able to get out and about. It’ll be better quicker than you think — SE Louisiana is making great strides and it’s been 3 weeks.
How did your in-laws house hold up?

That’s a cell phone tower that’s down. I haven’t had any service the eye went over us. My GF has a ton more pictures of damage as I was doing the driving.
