Alright, gents (lsunurse) I have a safety presentation at work in a few days, and I'm looking for something interesting to present. I'm tired of hearing about heat stress, ladder use, etc and I'm sure everyone is as well.

Y'all have any input?

fyi, I work for a GOM major oil company if that helps you at all.

I just did one on lightning. Pretty surprised to find out that 1/3 of lighting injuries happen to people indoors. Appropriate with the summer tstorms coming.

Look up machinist accident pictures if you want to talk about what turning machinery can do to a human body.

I also work in GOM. Going in tomorrow! Anyway. Our safety rep did a PP on the importance of quality sleep and eating healthy. Both of those make it easy to get up and work all day, and you feel better.

You can wuss out an go with hand an finger safety, or you can be a legend and do STD safety. We're all adults here. It's an important thing to know in life and they really like it when you involve safety in your personal life in meetings.

This. Can be as basic as, "Here's who to call if you can't come to work. If you're at work, here's where we'll keep the $20 in quarters so you can survive on cold drinks and Teddy Grahams out of the vending machines in the break area for a few days till you can get home."

Could give them all links to the sites you use to track it, the process by which you make decisions on work, or even include a Hurricane Tracking Chart (maybe stop off at McDonald's and get a WAFB Color the Weather sheet to hand out to everyone as a gag).

If you want something that will really catch their attention see if you can find a copy of the "Remember Charlie" video. It relates to oil and gas as it is based on an accident in a refinery (Exxon I believe). It lasts a little while though so it may not be what you are looking for at the moment.

Three points of contact when entering/exiting machinery (or jacked up F250's)

Lifting safety (for picking up Yetis)

Figured these are some main activities of workers, after reading all the OT plant worker/oilfield operator stereotypes.
