Is the same Rouses that everyone loved and spoke highly of on this board (and Food & Drink board) just a couple of years ago?

Yeah. They bought LeBlanc's to get a a better footing in the Baton Rouge market.

It is simply amazing to watch the decline in quality of the store on Drusilla since Leblanc's gave way to Rouses'.

LeBlanc's was a good store.

I don't think the Rouses are anything special.

Seems like the stores that Rouses actually built are the only good ones. The ones they acquired and bought out suck

This definitely seems to be the case.

The difference is simple to map out: Leblancs had Associated Grocers as their grocery supplier. They sold to Rouse's who has Associated Wholesale Grocers as their supplier. AG had about 100ish stores in LA and just a couple in TX and ms. AWG is a semi-national chain. Rouse's buys their stuff from people in Kansas City and don't really have the concern of the individual store. AG does a much better job of it. Rouse's was a much better store before they had plans to become the next Winn Dixie and brought the plague of AWG with it.

Very true.

Which makes Rouses an also-ran IMO. Nothing special at all.

There is a rouses off 190 in Covington next to Home Depot that is absolute garbage, the rest in the area are fine. So I think the quality can vary a lot by store.

I loved the LeBlanc's at Drusila. Had great produce, great beer and wine selection and a great meat market. Now they don't even carry good brands of regular grocery items like peanut butter. They took out the fresh squeezed OJ machine! And their meat and seafood has tanked.

I stopped going there all together. So sad.

I don't love Publix, but I hope they buy out that Rouses soon.

Glad my wife thinks the same. Saves me a lot of cash at the florist.

I didn't think Publix would move into Louisiana. Interesting news.

Does the Rouses that took over the brand new LeBlanc's in Ascension suck as bad as the one on Drusilla or in Zachary? They just finished building it a year or so ago.

since Rouses took over, quality has become abysmal to the point that we've pretty much stopped going.

I'll second this...
produce goes bad quickly and last milk I bought was rancid when I opened it...that was a few days ago...

no more...

Lived for a hellish year in ATL, where my only choices were Publix and Kroger.

No comment on Kroger, but I learned that there appears to be two Publix's** ... one shiny and new (and mostly suburban), the other a weirdly-compact in-town store with lots of Publix-branded stuff and not a lot of outside choices.

Ugh. I never could find Alton Brown's magical MegaMart.

** Public on FB says that's the official pluralization. Who am I to argue?

That's because it's ground fresh everyday and the next days date is put on it.

Your other complaints are valid. Their management seems to be lacking if the quality of products on the shelf are subpar.
