Mmmkay, if you have difficulty navigating a roundabout, you'll really like it when they put a DDI in your town.
Coming to Lake Charles in a few months.

They're installing ramp meters on the Pontchartrain Expressway New Orleans soon. It'll be a sight to see once they're active.

From my experience they are a hell of a lot better than traffic lights.

3. These are expensive as hell (there are accidents ALL the damned time)
They're awesome if you know how to properly use one, and would do a great deal to speed of some of the congestion on BR's surface streets. However, you can't have a "prime corner" at a roundabout, so the real estate interests and developers would most likely kill any attempt to start using traffic circles at busy intersections. Also, just for the record, there used to be one at the intersection of Airline Highway and Florida Boulevard, hence the name "Circle Bowl."

correct. France and Spain, specifically.
Even in Bahrain where, on the Muslim weekends, Allah let's completely covered Saudi women drive their massive SUVs.

I haven´t been there since 2006 or so. I don´t recall seeing roundabouts then.
Have you seen any English women stuffed in the dashes of Rolls Royces in Saudi?

I have driven through 5 or 6 lane roundabouts in Paris. Fun as hell imo, although it scared the hell out of my wife.

They've had plans for one on Hwy 1077 and 1085
That intersection was a death trap for years until they put up a stop light. There used to be a caution light at that intersection (Bootlegger and Turnpike), and folks were getting killed there all the time. There's one at Airport Road and Old Baton Rouge Highway just north of I-12 in Hammond.

Roundabouts in the US
We have two in little bitty Davidson NC. Inbound from interstate always think they have right of way - I pull out in front of them. Also, one in Nashville TN.

They're all over the place, and for some strange reason, many of them have giant coffee pots in the center.

Never been to Saudi. It was off-limits to US Servicemen every time I was over there, but what you describe sounds funny.

Pretty common on Army bases, or at least they were back in my day.
Fort Lewis North still has one. Huachuca as well.

Saudis go to Bahrain to party (as you well know).
They´d try and smuggle whores and/or strippers into Saudi by having the dash dismantled, the girl inserted, and the dash reassembled.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think that is the proper way to use a multi-lane roundabout. Once you are committed to using either the left or right lane depending on which exit you take, you never switch lanes once in the roundabout. You always maintain your lane position in the left lane until you exit.

We will have 4 in Hammond soon. One is already completed on Airport Road @ Old covington.
They are currently building one on Veterans Bld @ Club Deluxe. That is the first of 3 planned on the same street in a row. As I-12 crossed Veterans / RailRoad Ave by the Mall. There is going to be one on each side of I-12. They will be part of the entrance and exit ramps for I-12. Traffic in that area will be a Charlie Foxtrot for years until they are completed.

They're re-doing the Fillmore & I-25 interchange, about a half mile from my office, and installing a DDI. Should be interesting.

Here's a proper UK roundabout. Note the pavement markings with the Highway Route Number to assist you on which lane you should be in to properly comply:

We've got one on Douglas Island, and for some reason the people who live North of the roundabout don't seem to know how to use it. So many accidents there.

quote:If you´re in the left, you have to enter the right to exit (unless it´s completely empty, then you could do a sharp right and exit, but that´s still kind of dodgey, isn´t it?). I meant to say, if you´re in the left lane, and can´t get right, then stay your course and try again, when you come around again (to your intended exit).

I was skeptical when they put the one in Abita years back. It works like a charm. Way better than the stoplight did.
