Haven't had a chance to get my roof checked since Sunday's storms, but we had 3 cars sustain hail damage and my daughter's car estimate was 10K. Round 2 is scheduled for overnight tonight...

No, I wasn't smart enough to go find a parking garage before the storm hit and ride it out.. no brag here..

how does a hail claim affect your insurance rates?

Depends upon your insurance I think.. Most companies consider it an "Act of God" type of thing, so it shouldn't make them go up.

We purposely waited until after tonight's weather to have our roof checked. No point in scheduling it twice. Our cars are garages so no damage there but we do have 3 cracked windows. Plan to tape the cracks and close plantation shutters to get through tonight.

Still looking like 11:00 pm?

Frisco - My neighbor had her a roofer come by her house and brought him over to mine. I filed a claim already. We have roof and soft metal damage no windows cracked. AC unit is on the side the hail was coming from but the AC looks fine. My daughter's Tahoe has some damage on hood and roof. Son in law's Dodge Ram also has some damage. I picked it up new from the dealership on Saturday.

Yeah, one of my friends up there is dog-driving to the beer store and back until after tonight's storms.

Extremely bad news west of Spur TX. I'm at a scene of triple fatality accident two are storm chasers. #txwx @NWSLubbock

I've read it was a car crash. Not sure if it had anything to do with a Tornado. Sad regardless.

Do not make a claim until the threat of hail is over.
I had it in Wylie last year and claims adjuster checked the roof on a Friday. 3 days later on Monday we had the bigger storm hit and was forced to call insurance company again. They tried to force me to pay 2 deductibles. After a week of complaining the company relented and moved it back to a single deductible.

I used a company called DFW Storm Solutions for hail damage on my car. They did a pretty good job (some dents remain on trim, but I don't really care). They paid my deductible, handled everything with the insurance, picked up my car from work and dropped off a rental car. It was an incredibly easy process.

My policy gives you 6 months from the event to make a claim so no hurry.

Sunday was fun. New car was garaged. I covered the 11 year old daily driver with a couple of foam pads and thick comforters. I still got some dents. No window breakage but most screens on the west side of the house are toast. The biggest chunk of hail I found was the size of a baseball. I'm probably going to make a claim and apply the money to the new car loan.

Round 2 - DFW Severe Storms

I wouldn't worry too much about tonight. Storms look to move through later when the atmosphere is more stable but there could still be some straight line winds and small hail. Overall, shouldn't be anything like the other night. The one caveat would be if an isolated cell can fire across DFW this evening but none of the models are really showing that.

Here's the rundown from last night-early morning:

Parts of I-20 shut down both directions due to downed power lines.

Arlington got hit with power outages (signal lights near where I work are still out, our network is down partially).

Denton County had tornado warning (woke me up at 2:30 this morning--at least the sirens work) but nothing came of it. (Fortunately I was able to get me, my partner, our cat, and our betta fish all in a safe space)
