In what city should you cross MLK?

Or even be near MLK?

Tchula is fricking nuts and Ferrel is the smallest town I've driven through.

I don't think Tchula is very bad, except for the foot traffic crossing the highway at nighttime (so slow down).

I wouldn't classify any Delta towns as major cities, but the only place in the Delta I ever felt uneasy was in Clarksdale at the Double Quick on North State Street.

Clarksdale and Greenville are pretty rough for being in the middle of bum frick Egypt.

As a general guide, you don't want to be on MLK Blvd. no matter what city you're in.

I live on MLK in Houma. Nicest MLK you will ever find. They really need to make it a tourist attraction.

I was there recently and parts of those towns resembled Mogadishu... people in Greenville live in actual shacks.

Here is an interactive crime map for Dallas. Some areas like south of Fair Park and South Oak Cliff people know to stay away from. But some of the roughest are off Greenville Avenue in North Dallas, a place called 5 Points where 5 streets intersect. I have driven through there and it is pretty hairy....tons of people walking around and looking at my white arse as they walk in front of my car. There are also some very safe neighborhoods in Oak Cliff, which a lot of people are surprised about.

Oh man I used to drive through Tchula often for my job, it was an experience. I have seen no where that rivals it. Lots of mini marts and hair salons

The Gangsta Disciples and Vice Lords have been in the Delta since the 90's.

You can trace their roots back to the "Great Migration" up to the North after the mechanization of cotton farming. There are a lot of family connections between Chicago and the Delta. The GD's and VL's got their start in the Delta from people in Chicago sending their "troubled youths" down to live with relatives in the MS Delta. These "troubled youths" brought the Chicago gang life down to the Delta.

You talking about the area by the WalMart at Forest/Abrams/LBJ?

I don't understand all of the "Tchula hate" in this thread. The only reason you should ever be concerned with driving through Tchula at night is not being "carjacked," but rather hitting some wino/crackhead who stumbled out into the highway.

Tchula isn't "that bad" (unless you feel uncomfortable around blacks).
