Sad to see all these arse hat Wal Mart republicans celebrating. Just pathetic. It's yet another example of the idiocy of these folks who continually vote against their own self interest.
McCain spent five years as a POW while serving his country. He's an American hero who any sane reasonable person respects. He also should be saluted for standing up for what he thought was right instead of just slobbering like a dog because the "R" bell was ringing.

A lot of the replies in this thread are disturbing. I am sorry that we have fallen to this level of discourse.
It used to be that people could disagree and still respect one another. I voted for McCain in 2008. I didn't agree with everything he said, but I thought him the better candidate.
I haven't agreed with everything McCain has said and done since his election loss. But the man served his country in the most divisive of our wars. He spent years in a North Vietnam prisoner of war camp. He suffered torture and was permanently disfigured as a result. He could have gotten out early based on the fact that his father was an admiral, but declined.
He served his country in the Senate and followed his conscience in his votes. I didn't agree with them all, but I respected him. He was a "Maverick" and, while I didn't care for that I understood it.
We need to return to the days when we could disagree without being totally disagreeable. I'm not sure that will ever happen and we will be the worse for it.
R.I.P., Senator.

The majority of this sentiment is coming from the recently released info that he was behind the whole IRS scandal. Before that most people, myself included, maybe didn't agree with his politics but respected him. However it has been shown that he was a traitor and criminal.

John McCain was one of the last of a dying breed: white male Democrat.

Sadly, some forget he was someone’s husband, dad, grandfather and friend.

He served his country, then seemed to turn on it the last couple of years.

Why? It’s not like it’s a new sentiment that people waited for him to die to express.
I don’t agree with that particular expression but the social contract expectation that you are only allowed to speak glowingly of someone after their death is silly.
If nothing else, he became more and more of a hypocrite down the stretch.
Not as much as a hypocrite as the sycophants in the media who revered him after painting him as a war hawk neo-non in 2008.

For a rich trust fund heiress. McCain was actually a scumbag IRL. His military service makes that unpopular to say but no less true.
