The men (priests) who did these heinous and despicable things, and anyone who played any part in covering it up deserve to be punished. But they are just men (priests), The Catholic Church is MUCH bigger than any person or group of people. It is the Church Jesus Himself founded and has been a driver of more good on Earth than any other institution. The Church has endured MANY scandals in the past, will endure through these gross injustices, and will endure through future horrors and injustices. Just because men profess a faith, or hold a certain office, does not mean that are incapable of sin. It's abhorrent, and should be called so, but the Catholic Faith is the most beautiful faith and the One true faith, and will endure because the Holy Spirit and Christ are in the "Church" and at the head of The Church.

The devil is also ever present in the Church as well as running rampant in our world right now. We need, now more than ever, God's grace to fill our Church and to fill the hearts of the Faithful men and women who make up the Church. We need to remain prayerful.

Don't forget to mention that over 80% of these cases are male/male.

I’m sure this does contribute to lust issues, but why aren’t they relieving those lustful urges with grown women?
Instead, it’s usually adolescent boys

As most of the OT can testify, abstinence - voluntary or otherwise - does not cause pedophilia.

You don’t suddenly decide to hurt a kid because you can’t get laid.

I think the Pink Palace is the seminary in Baltimore. It's called that because it's literally a giant pink gothic structure.

New Orleans has Notre Flame.

And of course Washington, DC has the Theological College, or "Theological Closet."

First thing first. A grown man having sex with a prepubescent minor is one of the gravest crimes one can commit. If you went into the priesthood as a gay man that does not automatically make you a pedophile. No normal male straight or gay is attracted to kids. These are criminals using their position of access to kids with the trust of their flock to do these awful deeds. The Church has allowed these criminal into these positions. I don't believe for one second that their vows of abstinence have anything to do with having sex with minors. These sick Mfers have used the the Church. Now the Church is just as guilty covering up all these terrible crimes. every last priest that did these things should have been put in jail. Instead they just get reassigned. Additionally, the Church filing bankruptcy is absurd. Aymond says he wants to make it right while spending millions to try and minimize their losses. I know someone that was abused as a minor and they will never be made whole no matter how much money comes their way. It is all sickening .

Being raised a Catholic and trying to maintain my Catholic faith is very difficult with this scandal. I stopped going to church because I could not in good faith support an institution that continues to cover up abuse for decades.

These perverts are not the Catholic Church. Find a priest or priests who are well formed and holy. They are out there, there also continues to be snakes among them like these.

you're hurt bc you are catholic. You shouldn't take try to cover for them in this thread at all, really! Trying to say something about other churchs/religions right now is a bad look for you. The priest have been having this major issue for years. A personal friend was abused by a priest, and yes years ago but it happened. Don't defend it in this thread. Oh by the way, wager away but priest been getting busted for this for years and it's still going on. In-law family member who had 2 sons who were both gay priests. Feel sorry where they are stationed.

Hijack; I watched one of the homilies from the priest that died last week. Now my YouTube feed is full of Catholic stuff, a lot of it ranting against the pope. I'm not Catholic so I don't have a dog in the fight but I'm surprised they let priests get away with that.

I think current / recent cases are very rare. The Church has made a lot of good changes to prevent this stuff from happening today.

But they still have not been transparent and are trying to run from the past.

Aymond has been a disappointment. I thought a local boy would have done right by us, but he has not. He’s close to retirement. Hopefully the next guy will be better.

This is crazy sick. I know it's not all priests, most or what ever word you want to say, but it is sad that this continues to haunt and affect children's lives every day. They have to get this under control. Just stop letting priests have 1 on 1 contact with children. Take a big step towards protecting children.

100% agree. You can start with eliminating confessionals. Although I understand the concept of Reconciliation/confession, there is no need for a second grader to be behind closed doors with a priest without another adult present.

I can assure you, I most certainly am not hurt. Read the parable of the wheat and the tares. I just choose to take Jesus at his word when He gave the Church His promise of indefectability. The bad shall not overcome the good.

Me pointing out the metaphorical plank in the Protestant eye when it comes to the same exact issues, though a much higher occurrence in modern times, does not equate to me covering for the Catholic church.

Sorry, I forgot we're not allowed to point out uncomfortable truths about non-catholic churches, or point out facts about the article posted in the OP, like how many if not most of the accused (though not credibly so for most of the accused it seems) are not even priests, but are laypeople.

So has every other church and secular institution that has ever existed. What's your point?

I'm not defending this behavior just by pointing out that catholic priests don't have a monopoly on pedophilia.

Going to provide any details, or just make a baseless emotionally charged claim and expect us to just take you at your word?

Fr. Mark frequently got his wrists slapped by the Bishop in BR due to his homilies, but Paul rebuked Peter to his face, so I don't think it's really that big of a deal so long as you're not scandalizing the person.

A lot of the youtube people engaging in pope-bashing are rad trad sedevacantists, which basically has become another protestant denomination, so I would take what they say with a giant grain of salt.

Agreed BUT if your organization *requires* abstinence then you are just begging for pedophiles and other deviants to join ur organization .

Also, as a recovering Catholic myself, who had friends when I was a kid who were brutally raped by authority figures in the Church- little innocent kids.. I say we shut down the Church, or at the very least tax the everloving shite out of them .
