Insurance company gave me a check to get my car cleaned out. Already took it to the dealership, and they determined that it needed a new airbag sensor and an air filter to be fully functional again, no other issues. Recommended getting carpet replaced and get rid of whatever might be growing under the carpet. I called one place here in central, who said they weren't messing with flood cars due to liability issues. Anyone in BR doing that work?

Replacing the carpet isn't difficult.

Remove seats & door sills and you should be good to go......order OEM carpet and pad......install and you're good as new

This doesn't help you at all, but I really want to remove the carpet in my 4runner and put spray in bed liner inside.

Honestly, I'd do what the other poster said and install it myself. Probably would take you 4-5 hours.

So they completely disregarded the rest of the sensors underneath the carpet that got water in them?

I cleaned carpets and replaced the padding in cars at my parents gas stations for an entire summer after the May flood of 1995. It was awful.

You can probably pressure wash and shampoo both sides of the carpet and save it. What you have to do is get the carpet padding off the carpet and out of the interior car floor and then clean it. It should be easy to scrape off since it got wet.

This was also in 1995 before there were tons of electronics in the floor boards.

My BIL has a 2014 Ford XLT 4 door that got 2" of water in it and the insurance company totaled it. Said there are too many sensors and wiring in the floorboard that could corrode.

I'm pretty car-retarded outside of the basics, so I just trusted the dealership to tell me what needed to be done. It's a 2010 Accord that flooded up to the bottom of the seats. No water in the oil / fluids but got them changed /flushed anyway. If there's something specific to my car I should be looking at under the floor, let me know.

I'd be really happy if all I need to do is replace the carpet and airbag sensor. It does seem like a relatively simple diy job for the carpet.

Yeah, there are wires and connections all over under the carpet. They even build in spots for the plugs to sit in the floorboard. I wouldn't accept the fixes you did

Pulled the seats out of my sisters jeep a few years ago. ripped out nasty old carpet. herculined it and it came out great.
