Looking for a place to stay with the wife and infant kid for a month or two while we look for a house. We could do a hotel, but I'm looking for one of those places that's like a furnished apartment with a kitchenette where the cleaners come once a week. They're usually cheaper because you stay longer and there are fewer amenities.

The closer to downtown, the better. Want to pay as little as possible, but don't want to get stabbed or stay in a place that also charges hourly room rate (IYKWIM). Free breakfast would be a huge plus.

Any of you OT business travelers got a place (or chain name) worth checking out?

TIA.

If you were solo your options would be better. With a family tho, I'd probably just find a decent rent house and sign a 6month to a year lease until you figure out where you want to be the most. I've never understood those in such a hurry to get trapped in a home they eventually won't want.

Prob best to work with a real estate agents that also deals with rentals. Depending on your budget I'd look in areas around Rice, memorial, or belaire.

Brand new 3 story million dollar + home in the Heights. Has prob a 1200 sg ft studio apt above the garage. Trust me, far from shady.

Try HAR.com. We did a furnished condo in a highrise short term that included all utilities. Cindi Peek at Peek Realty may be able to help you. Their office is on the first floor of the Mosaic.

Some years back when I had to work alternate weeks in Houston, I stayed at the Homewood Suites out by the airport. Not near much but the customer service was among the best I've experienced.

I used to hold computer training classes at that hotel every quarter. The management and staff are awesome. However, it runs about $150/night that could get pricey.
And you are right there is nothing close to that hotel.

Stay at the Granduca in Uptown if you've got the money for it.

Sure, I guess something like that would work.

I was in your shoes about 2 years ago. Although I wasn't ever trying to stay downtown. There are tons of extended stay places. Just never stay at an Extended Stay America. That was awful. I stayed on the west side at the toll road, and up north by the woodlands. My suggestion with an infant is to get a room on the first floor at the end of the hall. That way when they wake up crying in the middle of the night, you don't wake up every room around you and you can sneak out to the car easily. I had to drive my 3 month old around to get him to sleep some nights.
