Yeah I would recommend a google tv box or dongle over the Apple TV. Most of the time, they are cheaper than the Apple TV and can do more of what you are looking for without the hassle of jailbreaking and such since XBMC can be installed on them with ease for the most part. I own a few Logitech Revues. They are pretty outdated as far as specs but do the job perfectly for me

still confused..doesnt this downsample 1080p down to 720p during playback?

its still not a true 1080p device right?

She is in Southdowns and gets stations from Ascension, Denham, and Port Allen IIRC. For the further ones, she has to take out the ring antenna for some reason, but they still come in clearly

some stuff is some stuff isnt. I think in a future firmware everything will be. regardless, most of the stuff I am watching isnt gonna be 1080p anyway, so I dont care.

according to the specs, this downsamples everything to 720p.

so even if you have some gorgeous bluray rips, its going to turn it into 720p no matter what.

thats a limitation of this box it appears.

The mx2 only outputs in 720p even with the latest 4.2.2 firmware.

I think that the limitation is on the xbmc on android. the box is capable of 1080p and supposedly uses 1080p on everything but xbmc. they are supposed to have a new firmware that supports 1080p on xbmc soon.

im not too concerned either way, as long as the video looks as good as directv hd, which the feeds I have tried have so far. and thats on a 120" screen.

Cox Cable is the technology of wall mounted telephones in your home. Why would you pay money for an inferior product is insane to me.

i thought xbmc was the OS on the box. are you saying its an app you launch?

that you can share a 1080p on your local network and play that natively without using XBMC to provide the codec, etc?

i'm just not clear on how you would play a 1080p file without using xbmc for it.

For the mx2, if I connect an external hard drive to it, will I be able to transfer files to that hard drive over my network from a computer?

it runs android OS and has xbmc as an app. if you need more info check out their forum. im not an expert on it by any means. I was able to stream movies from various apps on xbmc and they looked great.

Cold Duck, I have 7x devices I use as TVs. You need a Plex server to spit out downloaded content. I've got an Android tablet, IPad, Iphones, one dumb Tv w/Chromecast, and one smart Samsung Tv, I also have an HD antenna. I also bought a $65 computer as a media server recently.

Every last one of them supports Plex, so any movie or TV series I have gets spit out to every device. The Samsung has the apps, Netflix, Plex, and Amazon on it. Chromecast has Netflix and Plex, so new shows, old shows, crappy Netflix movies, and new movies I have with it. The phones and tablets are better, they get Disney for the kids, ESPN, Plex, Netflix, and Amazon.

Which usenet? I just dropped Giganews. Too many incompletes and corrupted files, particularly GoT. They take that off as soon as someone uploads it. I think all the usenet providers censor their newsgroups, don't they?

with the android firmware, it's only 720p

I have an MX2 clone box running linux that does 1080p. Turn it on and it boots directly into XBMC

Check out croniccorey or jaybob linux builds for AML8726-MX

Usenet.net not sure if it's the best, but they're good. My friends always suggest European based ones if you can find a good one.

You can install free PVR software on a computer with an attached tuner for OTA shows. I paid an extra $10 to get windows media center on my pc and it dvrs my shows, MCEbuddy cleans them up and puts them in a folder that Plex or any other media server can dish them out.
