This is a terrible idea and could result in a court martial. All weapons that are used in the military have to be approved in the Geneva Convention to include ammo.

I understand your son may be more comfortable with his personal weapon(s), but the risk is too high, imo.

I personally choose not to join the marine infantry unit as they would not let me bring my beretta 92

Ah ok. I get it, you're worried about your son and you want to make sure he has everything he needs. I understand completely.

A Marine would not ask a question like this.

He can do everything a pistol can do and much much more with his rifle.

Stack bodies!

If you expect people here to realize that an M9 is a Beretta92, then you are expecting way too much.

Nice try though.

I understand the issues at hand, but how retarded is it that you can't even bring your own pistol to war?

I'm trying to figure out why the blue frick somebody would do this. Is this not like trying to bring sand to the beach?

Another random opinion: I believe he did it for the "cool factor" and to have a status symbol. To be honest I feel a sidearm is piece of kit that provides convienence. I've been issued both on all my tours and whenever "outside the wire" I only carried my M4. Higher capacity and just as effective at close range if you train with it. Likewise it felt a hell of a lot more comfortable with that stick than a pistol in a fight.

They do serve a distinct purpose...and my needs never crossed that threshold. The sidearm was nice to have when going to chow...and that was about it.

Because if you have met the typical 19 year old LCPL you would know how terrible of an idea that would be

Probably can't even bring your favorite sleeping bag or tent either.

He's going to be better even with the worst pistol he shoots then 99% of the nutcases he come into contact with. I would tell your son he's a great shot and he'll be perfectly safe with whatever weapon the marines believe he needs at the moment.

I'm just saying that everyone I've talked to that was issued an M9 always talks about how worn out and ragged they are. If someone wanted to bring a weapon not used in a standard infantry unit, I could see the rub.

Ok, sir, why are you asking? Want him to have something a little extra? He's not a fan of the Beretta? Just curious.
