I'm waiting on my flight and a guy sits next to me with a large golden retriever service dog. The dog is incredibly friendly and well behaved so it won't be an issue with its behavior.

What would happen if there was someone on the flight with a severe dog allergy? I have a friend who starts sneezing immediately if he walks into a house with a dog in it. How do the airlines handle this?

Service dogs are fine.

I like how people that travel with pets just let them piss all over the airport.

it's 2016 bruh, there are service dogs (oops excuse me, service animals) for ANYTHING. PTSD? Hell that's old news. Let me tell you about my service parakeet that I require for my "anxiety".

Try severe peanut allergy. I have a co-worker who has a daughter with Epi shot at the ready if she sits near (not in) a seat with peanut crumbs.

Airlines prompt for this when ticketing and are aware of all allergies (as provided by passenger during ticketing process) for each flight.

I would imagine that the dog would have to go in cargo.

Move them to another part of the plane?

Airline should just offer weed to those idiots. Take it or leave it or get off.

I was in Lowe's recently, and there was a very large dog roaming around freely. Never mind the fact that it might suddenly get startled and bite someone or trigger a violent allergic reaction in someone or go into a noisy barking frenzy or even simply just chew up some of Lowe's sale items. It won't be until a victim of a bite/allergic reaction sues the pants off of one of these companies that they will start cracking down on this issue.

It really is. I have an ex-gf who had a dog who was certified to be a therapy dog. He'd go to nursing homes, schools, hospitals, etc and basically cheer people up. But he had to go through a ton of classes, training, etc.

From what I understand, nowadays you can just go online and print off a certificate or something.

Why should the person with the allergy be deemed the bad guy and made a victim a second time by being told to move?

And good luck telling this furball to move when he has already been strapped into his seat:

90% of service dogs are for people who just want to travel with their animals.

If I had the choice between sitting next to a German Shepherd or the average fatass, give me the dog.

At least the dog will keep his snoring and drooling to a minimum while I'm trying to read.

Prong collars should be used for training, not kept on during a flight. WTF.

Seriously? I don't think I've ever been asked about allergies when buying a plane ticket. Maybe if it was a meal-service flight, but I haven't been on one of those in a while.

My daughter is allergic to dog hair--she doesn't sneeze or have problems breathing, but if a dog hair touches her skin she will start to swell up. It's not that big of a deal so I doubt she'd have a problem if a dog was on the plane (she visits friends with dogs and as long as she's careful, she has no problems). But I don't recall ever being asked if she had an allergy when flying.
