I’m about to order my wedding tuxedo from a British tailor. Seems like I can use my credit card. How will the exchange work on this? Right now the USD is worth about .8 of 1 GBP. So I’m looking at about a $750 total cost. Will there be an exchange fee from my card? Them?

Never really bought anything internationally before from an American based credit card so curious if anyone here has.

The tuxedo is coming from Ede & Ravenscroft if anyone has ordered from them before.

If your card has a foreign transaction fee, you may get charged that if it processes locally in pounds. Otherwise you shouldn't be charges a exchange rate fee.

Some do. Some don't.

Why don't you like, I dont know, call your cc company and ask them?

Or just look at your card member benefits?

Something a normal functioning adult should be able to do.

Depends entirely on your bank, but I’ve never had an extra fee tacked on, it just does the conversion for you.

I wear tuxedos yearly at least. Time for an upgrade. Not like I’m only going to wear it this one time.

Sorry yours was from Mens Warehouse.

We’ve been purchasing tickets and shite for a London/Paris trip next month. They take our US credit cards without issue. Only problem we have had is that every transaction has required an authorization during checkout.

Used to use a visa overseas and I was never charged by the credit card itself. Some hotels/restaurants would tack an extra fee to it on their own, though.

A general rules is a card with no annual fee may charge foreign transaction if you were to pay in pounds, but not charge a fee if you pay in dollars. A card with an annual fee generally won't charge foreign transaction. This can vary by card so it's worth checking.
Ex: chase freedom cards are 3%, most amex are no foreign transaction fee.

It's pretty straightforward to check your card member benefits.

Just check your credit card and make sure there are no foreign exchange fees. I have a Wells Fargo card that charges 3.5% but my Cap One does not charge any.
