So I just read the Washington Post article about the flooding in Louisiana. The article highlights the devastation and reports that 110,000 homes have applied for federal disaster assistance. Here is just a sampling of the comments LINK

quote:

I feel bad for the people in Louisiana. But the country and that state has to admit to itself that much of Louisiana is essentially a giant marsh and cannot support a steady place to live for any period time longer than 5 years (probably shorter if global warming gets any worse) before the next natural disaster

quote:

Surely they will smarten up and only rebuild on stilts. Or have the smarts not to rebuild. Not a penny should be given to fools so mired in global warming denial

quote:

We need to get people to move out of Louisiana,

They don't have flood insurance. Their loss is horrible, and we should help them rebuild. But we need to ask them to leave that low lying state. It's only going to get worse.

Want a new house? Move to higher ground.

quote:

For starters no support to those unwilling to relocate to higher ground

quote:

Lets start with this folks, Louisiana is on their own when comes to paying the piper. Word for the wise: Never build a house in flood plain

quote:

You literally live in a swamp, time to move

Do yourself a favor and ignore the comment section of any article posted anywhere. If you think this place has a few trolls, the comment section of news articles and YouTube is otherworldly.

Ask those people if they like driving their cars or want to buy electric cars.

There are a lot of ignorant people out there and the internet gives them a place to be heard.

Sounds like some of the comments posters on here would make about a natural disaster in Haiti.

Did the media fail to adequately explain the situation or are people just too stupid to comprehend?

California pretty much stays on fire these days... add in some earthquakes and I wonder why all those people haven't been forced to move to a safer state.

buy electric cars

Obvious choice for the intelligent ones who care about the environment

Between the poverty, education system, road ways, climate, natural disasters, state's financial situation, and history of corrupt politics I tend to think it should just be shut down completely

Most of the BR area is higher ground than Houston yet I don't remember anyone saying we shouldn't rebuild Houston.
