I mentioned on here a few months back that my Dad was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and had to spend several days in the hospital before they would release him. His sugar levels were over 700. They though they might take one of his feet due to poor circulation.

Fortunately that didn't happen.

After four days, they let him go home with a bunch of needles, insulin and a best of luck. Not really. He went a few seminars and meetings, but he was was kind of thrown out on his own.

Well, in the two to three months that have followed he's lost about 50 pounds, three pants sizes, five belt notches and his leg that was so swollen and borderline necrotic is normal size. His sugar levels have been below 100 for over 150 meals. He's down from four insulin shots a day to one.

He charts every meal in a three-ring binder like clockwork. He doesn't cheat. He just plugs along.

I'd forgotten how disciplined my Dad can be when he sets his mind to something.

Just wanted to brag on him a bit.

That's awesome. Congrats to your father. I'm sure he feels a lot better and I'm sure you're relieved with his health improvements. Good for him!

Yeah, he is kicking its arse right now. Some of his former players came by to visit him and took me aside to ask how he was really doing.

I said, "He started a binder."

"A three-ring binder?"

"Yeah."

"Oh, he good bruh. No problem."

Pop is known by his three-ring binders. He used to have one on every player to chart every practice, game performance and grades. He even kept them after they went to college. They would send him their grades.

sometimes i worry if i have diabetes because when i eat lunch i feel like shite the rest of the day but i think it's because i don't eat breakfast. but usually when i eat breakfast i feel like shite the rest of the day so I think I should probably just not eat much all day and eat dinner like usual

Sounds like Tommy Lasorda. A healthy shake for breakfast, another for lunch and a sensible dinner. Just eat less processed carbs any you will feel fine.

I need to show my dad this post to give him the kick in the arse he needs to get on track. It runs bad in his family. He's been severely overweight for as long as I can remember. Had gastric bypass five or six years ago and got on track for a little while. Watched his portions and logged his meals. Damn near lost 100 pounds. For whatever reason he slipped and started the bad eating habits again. I can see his health deteriorating. Poor circulation, shortness of breath, and a lack of energy.

After he had gastric bypass, I made a deal with him that we would give him another grandkid if he got his shite together. Can't make that deal again since I've gotten the snip.

I'm lucky that I'm adopted and didn't inherit it.

Dude thats awesome. I sold insulin for about 3 years and what your dad did is very uncommon. Diet exercise and weight loss are the best things a diabetic can do along with regular monitoring of their blood sugar. Everybody knows this but few actually do it. Props to the old man.
