Proposed roundabout at Sorrento intersection (by Cajun village)

DOTD wants to rework the intersection by the coffee house and make a roundabout because they think traffic gets congested right there. I don't feel like this will fix anything. Seems like a waste of money.
How about they make a 4 lane all the way from the sunshine bridge to that intersection?

Agreed. Roundabout will fix very little right there. The real issue is Hwy 70 to sunshine bridge. Traffic is god awful on that stretch.

frick a roundabout. People in Louisiana cannot drive in one to save their lives.

I thought that has already been approved...

I didn't realize we had so many traffic engineers posting here. What evidence do you have to support your claims that this will fix nothing?

I love roundabouts. Traffic steadily moves (minus the occasional numb nut), but a roundabout at the location discussed is stupid and won't solve the real issue at hand.

I used to really hate roundabouts as a designer, but I think operationally they do work well in some situations. This could really be one of them.

It has. Construction will likely start within 2 years.

I don't understand why it takes 2+ years to get a project going...

It'll do nothing to cure the insufferable assholes that drive that stretch.

My evidence is living in Donaldsonville and driving that intersection about 37 billion times already back and forth. Plus I've seen traffic stack up at roundabouts already. It's not like there's a red light there and traffic gets backed up. Traffic is congested because of all the plant baws like myself that have to get places. Finishing the work on the bridge helped some, but it just pushed the bottleneck back further to the lane merge on 70.
It isn't like anyone is waiting long at that intersection. Traffic coming from the southwest part of that intersection is almost non-existent

every day the traffic at the light next to motiva there is bumper to bumper traffic... it's insane how bad it gets there

The people of this state can't navigate their driveways properly let alone negotiate a roundabout. Hell they can't handle going down the interstate much less anything else.
I wish we had stricter rules for getting a license. Half of the people you see on the roads shouldn't have one to begin with.

My favorite is when you're taking the exit at 70 to go towards Dville and everyone is in the merge lane so traffic stacks up. So assholes decide to go straight and take a right turn in the lane that's meant to go straight to Nola or left to Sorrento. It backs shite up even further. I want to blow up their vehicles with a bazooka when I see that shite. If you're one of those people, frick you

The part about it that will not work is there is a traffic light about 1/4 mile down. The flow of traffic there at rush hour is a steady stream of cars, bumper to bumper. The light being red will bring the traffic to a complete stop anyway, roundabout or not. That is the bottleneck.
Add me to the list of saying 70 needs to be 4 laned all the way down. The traffic signal right there near the Shell station where it reduces from two lanes into one lane is what causes backup.
The bottom line is that Louisiana loves traffic signals. There is enough traffic that travels those areas where a raised entrance to I-10 would be warranted (similar to Causeway at I-10). Also, raise the intersection right there at the Shell station to keep flow moving (like Airline/Jefferson).

Roundabouts usually work really well. The problem I see there is that it will help people coming from north on 22 taking a left, but will stall people coming from the south on 22 just trying to go straight down
