If what makes me feel better?

Non believers hide behind science. Your arrogance of intelligence is your crutch. It's your only comfort helping you through this life. I don't condemn you nor am I mad at anyone like you. I wish you well.
There a great story about an atheist barber and a Christian client. The short version is this: The client tells the barber how spiritual he is about God and Jesus while they're getting to know one another. The barber says he doesn't believe. The barber says how can there be a god, look at all the suffering in this world. The client leaves and brings in a man with extraordinarily long hair and a long beard. He says I don't believe in barbers. The barber says, but I'm right here. The client says, but if you exist then why hasn't this mans hair been cut in so long? Because he has to come to you, the client says.
You have to come to him. Once you do, you'll see it and feel it.

Your Harry Potter comparison.

No need. The story isn't for me or my relatives. It's for you.

Awww, thanks
I've come from a religious background.

Speaking of arrogance:
You only find comfort in believing in God?

One could equally be as critical of your stance (a dismissive one) as I would of a zealot

And I'm not dismissive. I'm open to evidence of God as an agnostic (or agnostic atheist). That doesn't mean that pointing to the Bible as proof that the Bible is real is logically sound.
Science is a means for investigation, so please explain how one "hides" behind it.

Why are we here and how did we get here. So something exploded trillions of years ago, boom... man exists, this happens and that happens, the historical truth of the crucifixion and the supernatural events that took place during, the written bible, your soul attached to your body.
You could have been a bird, a tree, a blade of grass, but you are you. A human being. Man, what are the odds. All this science, this luck, what fortune. Science didn't bring you here. A higher power did.

I don't know. That's kind of the entire point.

What?

What exactly do you think science is?

There is empirical proof of both the big bang theory and evolution. If you want to say God is the driving force behind that, go for it. There are philosophical questions that need to be applied to that too.

At that point you can dismiss those who believe in "fairy tales". All you have to do is disregard that true scientists consider all scenarios as possibilities when attempting to solve complex problems. Revel in the fact that you can always make light of the fact that fairy tale believers are limiting their scope of thought. Just be aware that you may be engaging in same hypocritical line of thinking (by dismissing their beliefs as a possibility),
My point was the invoking of science (or our current understanding of science) as a reason for dissmissing unprovable, untestable subjects.

That is a fair position. I guess I was directing my comments to the "prove it" crowd
"No one knows the answer" to the question posed by the OP is the correct answer?
I remain aware of my biases, but really stay curious on matters like this.

That isn't an objective of science.
But that is a two way street when claiming proof of the existence of God....

I agree. That is my point.
Yet this is what happens in most of these threads

If you believe and put your trust in him, he will take care of you. If you were so certain of being an atheist you wouldn't be arguing with everyone. I think you want answers. I think you want to believe but strayed away and started hanging out with some know-it-alls.
Unfortunately I have old friends who are atheists as well. I've looked at it from both sides. Science is mans way of understanding Gods ingredients. Man has figured out so many things during our stint on this planet. Still can't prove Jesus isn't God in human form. Scientists spend their whole life dissecting Gods work, failing to give God credit. Instead we chalk it up to dumb luck lol lol. Our great planet , our great existence. All just a big crazy coincidence. I think not.
Good day sir.

First, you have reading comprehension issues
Second, isn't that a two way street? If you're so certain of God, you wouldn't be arguing with everyone....

Yea, you aren't arrogant at all.

Of course you can't. Just like you can't prove that Zeus isn't a God, that unicorns don't exist, that Bigfoot doesn't exist, that the Lochness monster doesn't exist, etc.
Your understanding of science is absolutely laughable. Science searches for answers.
You're the "know it all" in this situation who thinks you already have them. You're, simply put, a hypocrite.
Just because the answer to a question is "I don't know/understand" doesn't mean you can create a narrative for it, label it as fact, and dismiss all other possible theories or alternatives. I don't know is far healthier, and so is the scientific search for finding answers to unsolved questions.
You've weakly brought up the big bang and evolution. Are you under the opinion that those aren't valid?

I'll tell you one thing I didn't do. Call you a hypocrite or make any other derogatory remarks towards you personally. And I want. Enjoy your day, friend.

Calling someone arrogant is derogatory?
Sorry if the truth hurts
And I want?
