In my opinion the biggest asset that you get from going to CHS/SJA is not the academics themselves, but instead expectations for its graduates and the network that gets established while you are there.

actually, this is true for all private schools, IMO...not so much how much you learn, but who you associate with when there...

Christian Life is as good a school as Dunham -- just doesn't have the flair to show like they do. Episcopal is VERY expensive (about 30K a year). Christian Life has a bad name because of the news, but it happens to many places. I'd also check out Runnels.

Runnels and CLA are too small for my tastes. They also take all of the rejects and kids expelled from CHS/SJA/Episcopal

Dunham does this, too.

What part of Christian Life is just as good as Dunham? Not claiming that Dunham is the best school in Baton Rouge but to suggest CLA and Dunham are equal is laughable.

Several teachers go back and forth between the two. I do not know what is so laughable. Dunham has hardly any female athletic teams. Have they, athletically, been in the news much lately? Has Dunham been to state in any sport? I know academics should be the main focus, but why are they miles ahead of CLA?

CLA is NOT the best private school, but for the money, you're getting as much as Dunham gets. BTW that teacher who was just in the news at CLA...she taught at Dunham, too.

Christian Life is the right fit for some folks but the SO would not allow our kids to go there.

You'll pay for it but episcopal has great academics, great facilities and great teachers... My kids go the catholic school route and are attending St A.. St George is an equally good school.. Don't know much about MBS except with sports and didn't enjoy some of the parents..so that doesn't mean to much.. Don't know shite about cypress except it's small

Fair enough. It's not for everyone. We are friends with a Dunham teacher who sends both her kids to CLA -- and they're a different religion. Why not take the half-off tuition at Dunham?

Episcopal isn't 30k! Not even close. And are you really comparing girl athletics at CLA with other schools?

Dunham isn't for everyone, but I will list positives for Dunham.
1. Elementary school. It is nearly brand new and a great facility with wonderful teachers. Technology and computer projects are mixed in at a young age as well.
2. Great new arts facilities.
3. Harkness Method.
4. Apple school.
5. Baseball, golf, basketball, wrestling, tennis and swimming. Dunham has moved to 2A in the last few years and I believe they are on the bottom of that scale which makes athletics fairly tough. Plus Dunham has one of the best strength and conditioning coaches in the city .
6. McKay Academic Center for all of your kids academic accommodation needs.
