How old are you? I'm not sure I know any cities that were beautiful when I visited the first time then a dump the next. This seems like a question for senior citizens

Are you retarded?
Listing Chicago and San Diego pretty much immediately disqualifies someone's opinion in my eyes. I've lived in pretty much every major region of the US, and if those aren't two of the more beautiful cities in the country (for different reasons, given), then the entire country is a shithole.
Essentially, the entire central and northern sections of Chicago - where more than half the city lives - are some of the most beautiful urban areas you will see anywhere in America. Some of the far western areas are hell holes, as is a good chunk of the southern part of the city, but even then, there are some amazingly beautiful neighborhoods in those areas (Hyde Park and Beverly to name two, and Bridgeport, Chinatown, and Bronzeville aren't far behind). You can trace a line from the South Loop near Soldier Field all the way up to the very northern limit of the city to Evanston and hit nothing but affluent and super-affluent areas.

c'mon man, don't you read the OT and PT? The only white people left in Europe are living Anne Frank style in attics and basements. All European cities have been over run by dirty muzlems and Sharia Law is everywhere.
Places like London where it's expensive. Most people move out of the city and the Muslims with money live there.
But it's not a shite hole, far from it.

I'm talking about places that, you may not have ever gotten to see in their heyday and may have lost a lot of luster, but can tell just by looking at the old buildings, the old housing stock, and the layout, with parks, landscape, etc., were obviously real pretty cities at one time.

That's not correct.
You can just say Democrats. There is more white trash in the US than any other group. Despite the narrative, white trash vote Democrat in large numbers.
So basically any city taken over and/or run by Democrats for more than two decades will go to shite.
PS - I'm a former registered Democrat and have voted for dozens of them. I'm part of the problem.

Gainesville, Florida
I grew up there back in the 70,s and 80's. I moved away in 84. That town has declined one very way possible. It's crawling with homeless people. The streets are literally falling apart. Communities that were once really nice are now declining slums. It is very depressing to go back.

Galveston, tx is a Skelton of a once decent town
Monroe is similar. It's like once Jim Crow ended everyone just gave up and moved from Monroe.

I remember passing through Opelousas about 20+ years ago thinking it wasnt such a bad city. The architecture was nice and the streets were clean. Not so much now.

St. Louis is the most disappointing city in America. Just completely generic.
I think in terms of fall from its height, the answer is Venice - although it's gotten to the point where the decay is part of the attraction.

Jackson, MS - even the nice parts are bad now.
Greenville, MS - tons of beautiful old Victorian homes that are either abandoned or crack houses. Virtually no wealth left in that city.
Detroit - again, great architectural stock of pre-war homes that are just decaying.
I do not think that New Orleans should be on this list - it is much better than it was 15 years ago.

Having grown up in Ouchita parish, I have to agree with this. However, a lot of the white flight just went across the river.
The 80's oil prices put a festering wound on Monroe that is killing it slowly. That's when we left anyway.

Alexandria, LA is probably a really good example
once the airbase left the city died and has stayed stagnant for the last 20 years

All the small towns on Hwy 190.
They used to be pretty towns to drive through.
Now they just look like they can be a set for The Walking Dead.

Really? I've been visiting there since the 70's and it's always been a dump. In fact, the natural gas boom really improved that town a lot. New schools, hotels, etc.

I was going to list Greenville. Some houses that really look like they were very nice about 50-60 years ago. Greenville was once a prosperous town too dating back to the Percy days and king cotton.
