Ya...usually if you are smart enough to get into an Ivy league school you will qualify for a few scholarships!

Lol. Are you serious Clark?

Actually, I am. In Baton Rouge, LSU carries more weight than Cornell for several reasons. Recruiters in Baton Rouge know exactly what they're getting from an LSU grad, as apposed to an Ivy League grad. Also, many HR managers and recruiters either look down on the Ivy League as being too elitist or they assume that a candidate with an Ivy League degree is "too good" for the job, and will not be satisfied in it and will quickly bolt for better opportunities. There's also a bit of tribalism and college spirit that goes into it. There's no one in Baton Rouge that's rah rah for the Princeton Tigers. They might take an LSU grad over the Ivy Leaguer just because of school pride.

In law, the local schools have an even bigger advantage over the Ivy League on account of Louisiana's unique legal code.

I just told you that the prices for Ivy League and out of state public colleges aren't that far off. I have been looking this shite up for two or three weeks now. How is it pretty stupid?

Gumps = $20k
LSU = $26k
Tennessee = $30k
UGA = $40K
Auburn = $44k
TCU = $50K
Sewanee = $50k
Princeton = $57k
SMU = $60K
Harvard = $60k
Colombia = $64k

Wharton is a big outlier at $97k/yr

If you've got $40k to throw around each year for UGA, you've got another $20k to drop on a big-name school

Nobody cares where you went to school later in life. Finding a job in the South is more about who you know and working hard once you have it.

Most of the private colleges are heavy on scholarships, while the state schools are stingy with them. That puts them in the same range

How many people have you hired for your business?

In my experience, for a white male, it's the complete opposite. Maybe they dig chicks. LSU literally threw money at me while Emory just said 'yeah cool you can come I guess.' Milsaps gave me like half off.

When I was in the private sector I hired around 30 employees over the years. I was much more concerned with drive and work ethic thn I was with where the person earned a degree. I also found that people that came from wealthier families tended to have much less drive but better contacts. I looked at many things before bringing a new employee on.

It'll get them an interview. And people are impressed, but it doesn't set you apart like most would assume. Not to mention the perception that you'll always be looking for a promotion or a "better" opportunity.

I worked alongside Ivy students during my fellowship in DC 8 years ago. I carried my weight and was the only one offered a job when it was over.

Top of your class with honors at LSU, USC, Bama, UF = middle of the road to bottom at the Ivy's when looking for jobs in the southeast.

I know this based on family members and family friends who own their own businesses or conduct hiring for the businesses they work for. Louisiana is not like the rest of the country, Baton Rouge in particular. He was saying about Baton Rouge. In New Orleans, an Ivy League degree would likely carry more weight than an LSU one (depending on the degree and job). I am not sure how an Ivy League law degree would stack up to an LSU one in New Orleans, but I know a Tulane degree would be favored over both (assuming all qualifications except Alma Mater being equal).

State schools (especially LSU) are stingy with scholarship money for in state applicants, but they're pretty generous with them for out of state applicants. They assume TOPS has you covered so they don't need to work for the in state students.

These are way off. You're getting total cost and tuition mixed up. You should re-do your list.

Your #'s seem off and I never said going OOS was intelligent either.

The smartest thing to do would be go to a college in -state that was cheaper.

Completely disagree. I agree that it matters less as you gain more work experience, but initially it matters where you went to school.
