Assuming there is nothing but steps at most leading to this pool, maybe so.

Is a 22 month old tall and/or capable enough to open a door?

Religion, dead baby, emotionally scarred teenager. Nope, not even gonna make a snarky comment about it.

Nobody wants to sit here and have a palaver about the sadness of child death -- everybody thinks it's sad and it has nothing to do with religion.

I think he was referring to this statement from you...

Why does the church need a death trap to initiate members?

Pretty trollish.

Do you want to refute the point or is everyone situation off limits now? A child dies and we cannot discuss the liability of the death?

Grow up.

Everything is a death trap to an unattended 2 year old. I wouldn't expect you to understand that, though. Disbelief in/hate for religion makes some people as stupid as zealots. You're the atheist version of a young earther.

Lots of people pray for children. Seems OP is trying to be snarky, but this seems like a pretty obvious tragedy without any humor at all.

Depends on facts we don't have, and someone initiating a lawsuit, which probably won't happen (but people surprise me all the time).

Lawsuit doesn't need to be initiated for a liability policy to pay.

Someone has to posture and get a claim working. Point being, is there liability here? Maybe. Is it the church's fault? Obviously not.

Would this child be alive if not for the church possessing an attractive nuisance capable of causing death to said child?

I'd call that a death trap.

That's for the insurance company and/or their attorneys to determine.

If you leave an infant unsupervised they're all going to die, regardless.

The kid may have had no idea what it was and walked in to it.

ETA There a lot of things we do not know, so it's hard to say who is at fault for what.

Well certainly none of the insurance companies I represent are going to pay out without someone raising the issue in pre-suit.
