We went to Dubai , Saudi Arabia, and Jordan for work..

How long ago has it been since you been there?

I know oilfield guys from la. That also Go there but.......no way I would live there

maybe 4 years ago. I found it to be really nice. You have to respect the locals, but at the same time you get a orderly society where you dont have to put up with thugs and trash.

I could see guards in saudi and jordan, but not dubai.

We were told by our invitees that my wife being a blonde, that was best she where a burka...same thing in Jordan and Saudi. Her being female, they thought it was best. And it sucked as far as comfortability. S Africa we good, Russia we good, hell Papua New Guinea we good.

You can find a good enough life in the US that you don't have to take their sandy money and live a suppressed life for 5 years.

It's less desirable than Abu Dhabi from what colleagues tell me. I'm told Muscat is the place to be. I am also expecting an offer to move to the region. I'm really hoping it's in Oman.

Maybe a somewhat decent society that doesn't rely on slave labor and doesn't treat all women and non-landowners like total shite?

I've yet to find a company in the US that pays your US taxes for you. That $30-$40k extra in your pocket is why us expats don't want to go back and work in the US. Not to mention our salaries are higher and all our housing, cars and living expenses are paid.

man. like not letting you go out on your own after work. its home then straight to work then right back home. they also treat you like shite. but it does pay well.

What? One of my good friends moved to Dubai about a year ago and he loves it. Single, white 28 year old. He parties pretty hard and has made friends with some wealthy locals. He's on massive yachts and beaches every weekend which seems awesome if that's your style. Not sure where you heard you can't go out on your own after work

Yea that's utter stupidity. My friends from the UK routinely go there for vacations and all want to move there.

My firm does a lot of work in Abu Dhabi, not far over. A colleague was there for an extended rotation and spent some time in Dubai. He said it was flashy, lots of interesting stuff, but it did tire after a while. He's mid-late 20s and while not a major partier, does go out for drinks and such.

He did say the tinder situation was pretty solid. Ended up with an Australian girl teaching over there.

Where the frick were you? The Russian women walk around there in barely any clothes. You will see some women in burkas in Dubai, but in no way do women have to wear them there. Neither my mom or sister ever had one on. Sometimes they wore a headscarf if they were going to meet someone that they wanted to show respect, but they weren't forced to do it.

I had several American classmates in business school, including a female from the south, that lived there for work before school. They all seemed to love it. A couple went back.

Good chance the people with misinformation about Dubai also go to Disney every year. Yay or Nay?
