Potential Move to Dubai?

Looking for some input from folks on a potential relocation. I just got notified that I am in consideration for a pretty substantial promotion (not so subtle brag), but it would require me to relocate to Dubai for about five years.
I've been told it can be fairly lonely for folks who go there solo. Most folks I've talked to say that outside of paying for prostitutes, there's not much in the way of a social life. I'm only 27 so not desperate to lock something up, but I also don't know how I feel about pay for flesh relationships-only for the next five years.
Any other advice folks might have to give. I've lived in Europe and Australia so I'm comfortable being abroad, but I've never done the Middle East. I'm a pretty laid-back, casual person so I am worried I might not be the best fit for this culture.
Any input is greatly appreciated! TIA!

Don't be a sucker. There is a reason they are giving you a significant raise to go live there. Some poor guy will likely take it though.

Don't drink and drive there.
Not that you should anywhere, but they take it even more seriously.
I'd love to go visit just to check out all the ridiculous architecture, but not sure I'd want to live there for 5 years, even if I was making bank.

ive heard some horror stories man. like not letting you go out on your own after work. its home then straight to work then right back home. they also treat you like shite. but it does pay well.

Don't get caught having unmarried sex.

Don't get caught smashing some strange either. They will lock your arse up quick, fast, and in a hurry.
Other than that, good luck man.

I'd definitely bring a gun with me.

While you probably wont find much in terms of relationships. There are plenty of business people who travel to Dubai. There are also lots of European students.
Just be careful who you make angry because I believe the Dubai gov't just arrested someone for having sex without being married first.
Dubai is a great city.
With your extra income, you can fly to other locales for some R&R
If I was a single unattached professional, I'd go for it

A friend of mine lived there for a few years while working for McDermott. Place seemed really clean and modern. They do sell camel nuts in the meat section of the grocery fyi

Unless you're a devout Muslim, I don't see why you'd want to go live there.
Would you really want to spend 5 years living in a place where you could go to jail for shite like this:
British tourist 'gang-raped' faces jail time for sex outside of marriage
Tourists arrested for pre-marital sex after doctor reports pregnancy to police

If you were 23, I'd say maybe. I'm sure you'll put away lots of cash.
At 27? Eehhhh... I noticed a big change in my mindset at the turn of 30. You seem to already be thinking about establishing a true social life and potentially finding a long term partner. You might find yourself pushing mid thirties with lots of money as you return to the states but feeling like you're starting all over again when most of your peer group has settled into their own lives.
I say turn it down.

I hope you like Asians... bc they're gonna be Asians.
No way I'd move to the Mid East as a young, single guy.

A friend went to Dubai for a huge pay increase and is still regretting his decision. Unless you are Muslim, I would strongly reconsider your options.

Some of my friends in oil and gas went there for short stays like a 6 months to a year. They loved it. That area is pretty nice for the middle east.
I can't say that I would be up for such a long time there though.

I've always been curious as to what kind of tenants occupy the Burj Khalifa.

Much easier to stomach for 6 months to a year. Hell, I had fun in Midland, Texas because I knew I'd be done in 4 weeks.

What happened to the guy you are replacing ?
Seriously though - Five years is not that long, go make the bank and come back.
They womens will be lined up if you have money

That's probably a crime that warrants a beheading over there.
