Good news - until all the trees are gone - we'll probably rely heavily on vehicles converted to methanol for fuel in the world of the post-apocalypse - so, if you run a methanol operation, you'll have customers - just not drinking buddies.
And the temperate/subtropics will dominate - the yankees will have to burn all their wood for heat - we'll have some left over for methanol.
Louisiana produces a lot of corn, too - and you'll want that for your ethanol side. (Wait, you're in Missouri - I guess you cats grow corn up there - or you can move to Nebraska.)

except I won't be in Missouri. I'll be on a river island in Florida.
