I like Jeremy Clarkson's take on the Panamera. He said something to the effect of "It's not that it doesn't look good compared to the other cars, it's that it doesn't look good compared to a genital wart".

Meh, they've grown on me. That said, if I needed a 4 door sports car it would be the 5 Series.
I looked hard at a 911 for my next sports car, but the F-Type R coupe blows it away in just about every measurable category. The Z06 kills the Jag, assuming it is not your DD.

LOL, no.
They are great cars.
They've kinda gotten ridiculous in price though and the performance/dollar ratio is way out of whack. The friggin' option list is a mile long and is mostly cosmetic and comfort items.

Well, they cost a lick so obviously you'd see older guys driving them. They are a pretty popular track car though and a lot of guys use 'em for that.

To all the guys who think buying power cars are midlife crisis, I would ask: Have you driven one? If you had the means to get one in your 20's or 30's you would right? So if you finally get the means to afford one in your late 30's, why wouldn't you?
I feel like all those "yeah he's going through a midlife crisis" people are simply jealous. Drive any high performance car for a few days, and you will start figuring out how to get one.

I get so sick of the mid-life crisis comments. One older woman made a comment about guys buying Porsches to "make up for something else." So fricking stupid, and comments like that are generally made by people who can't afford one. The 911 still consistently wins supercar shootouts when it comes to handling. It is a driver's car, and the purest sports car made. Just look at the first 911s that were made. The car has stayed true to its roots and a 911 from any year is easily identifiable.
I have always driven high performance cars. In high school I had a 280ZX Turbo my junior year and a 300ZX Turbo my senior year. Aside from owning a truck a few years to tow my motorcycle trailer, I've always driven performance vehicles. A 911 was my dream car since I was a kid, and I finally had the money to spend in my 40s so I bought one. Not a midlife crisis. I did 5 track days in my first 3 months of owning the car. That being said, I'm 48 with a really bad back, it's not exactly comfortable for long drives, and my kid doesn't want us to take it anywhere more than 15 minutes away because the back seat is tiny and uncomfortable. So I kinda have my eye on a Panamera now. Ideally I'd keep it and get the wife a Macan or a Panamera, but she doesn't want either (a woman who doesn't like spending money - imagine that).

I love Porsche. But I am neither capable or able to drive a 911 the way it should be driven. I'd take one of the 4 doors in a second.

Yes, and it seems incredibly pretentious and I'd change it if I could. Before joining tigerdroppings, I mainly participated on motocross and roadracing forums. It is quite common on those forums to have a screen name that relates to your bike or the brand. I joined this place right around the time I bought my 911, I had no idea what to use for a screen name, so I went with 911Moto - blend of my car and my moto hobbies. And in hindsight it does sound very pretentious, and for that I apologize.

That's one thing that cracks me up about many 911 owners/fans/purists. They always hate the new ones because they're not like the old ones. "I hate electric steering and doing 0-60 in 2.7 seconds in a Turbo S!"

Probably a good bit, but not the overwhelming majority, obviously.
So what, though?
The car accelerates, stops, and handles better than most anything on the road. You can definitely enjoy that as a DD.
