Have you ever been on a fricking plane? Do you know how fast they go? 674 feet per second. This would be like you tailgating someone by an inch going 80 miles an hour. You are dumb as the day is long.

Eastbound aircraft travel at an odd flight level, 39k feet, 37k feet, etc.

Westbound travel at an even level 38k feet, 36k feet, etc. so there isn’t any “tailgating”

Most commercial aircraft are RVSM certified where they can fly 1000 ft apart. So OP isn’t wrong.

I think he means flights distance from the ground, which anyway that still seems abnormally high to me. Pretty sure the common elevation is 36,000 feet. But man, front runner for dumbest post of the year by far.

You believe that a majority of planes on the same flight path are only a thousand feet behind each other?

Even if it’s not, why is he so surprised a plane going from one place to another follows the same flight pattern each time? Barring major turbulence or an airport shutdown, it should follow the same flight path multiple times a day. It’s like saying you’re impressed that cars go up and down 55 with roughly the same trajectory.

If I'm in New Orleans at sea level and my friend in Denver is 5,280 feet above sea level, we are not just a mile apart.
