I'd say that has more to do with emotion-regulation, but I guess it does presuppose ultimate personal responsibility. I disagree with that notion, though, and I think that is a benefit afforded to those who think of free will as an illusion.

Also, SwaggerCopter, a belief in free will does not necessitate a belief in an indeterministic universe. People who believe in free will but don't dismiss determinism are called Compatibilists.
