Geez..this is so frickin stupid. First they're trying to convince us of some delusion of unequal pay and now they want basically 3 months off a year?? Give the fricktards and inch...

Even the female OB/GYN they interviewed in the article thinks this is ridiculous.

She basically says that if a woman's period is causing her sooo much pain that she can't even do basic things like go to work....she has something medically wrong with her and needs to see her doctor about it.

I thought they were all about equal treatment and pay? This isn't equal treatment.

We should also get time off for putting up with their bitchiness when they are on their period

I've worked for my company for almost 7 years and I've taken one sick day in that time. I don't complain about my periods at the office and I sure as hell don't use it as an excuse to have mood swings. I guess that's why I've been promoted twice and I excel at my job.

These morons need to realize life is a hell of a lot better when you don't spend it playing the "I'm a woman therefore I'm a victim" card.

Then a unique legislation of its kind, it is now found in a few countries. Debate continues as to whether it is a medical necessity or a discriminatory measure

In some cultures women are considered unclean during their period and are shunned. It wouldn't surprise me that many of these countries created these rules to keep them away rather to allow them to relax.

Regardless, why can't women just use sick time like everyone else when they aren't feeling up to going to work?

"paw-ternity" leave is a real thing over in the U.K., and it's a howling success. Companies across the pond now are giving their employees time off to take care of their pets, with benefits that can reach from a few hours to a few months, according to Public Radio International.

quote:

"It's time for the U.S. to hop aboard the 'paw-ternity' train," pet owner and features editor Lindsay Putnam wrote in the New York Post. "It's not just because I want to stay home and cuddle on the couch with my new feline (which I do)."

That would go over really well.

"Sorry boss, I need the next two weeks off. My dog is sick."

If my dog died or I had to go put him down...I'm calling into work that night and maybe the next night and using my personal leave time to cover it.

But two weeks off? Yeah I don't think so.

Yep, I liked that part too

In all seriousness, I am grateful to work for someone that believes in being able to still have life balance with work. Work from home when you need it, go to appointments and run errands when you need it, leave early when you need it.. but when you work, give 1000%. It discourages procrastination, which I find many "you must be here until 5PM sharp!" types encourage. Obviously, some jobs require your presence the entire day/shift. (If your job is answering phones, you kinda have to be at work all day for that)

But man. The reason what we have works is because we trust that we won't take advantage of it. A lot of people can't handle that freedom. This blanketed "period days" concept is horrible. A bunch of lazy asses who don't want to do their jobs will use the days every month and *still* procrastinate/be terrible employees.
