quote:

Amber Johnson is excited to hear about something like this as she shows off her pizza dough tossing ability working at the Mellow Mushroom in Lakewood. "It's rough" she explains talking about how much she dreads working through that time of the month. "No break no matter what time of the month, it's hard," she says.

In fact it's easy to find women out and about on Cleveland's streets all for it with responses like "it's good to have time off and take a break," and,
"oh...that would be just wonderful, I'll agree with that."

Thoughts?

Then expect to get paid less. You can't have both equal pay and preferential treatment.

How about paid days off for hunting season? That is a natural instinct that should be supported by society...

With some women, during that time of the month, I would at least consider paying them to stay the frick away from me!

My favorite part of the article is the person being interviewed's response:

quote:

"it's good to have time off and take a break,"

Well no shite

Even some men giving the thumbs up, saying things like, "I think it's a great idea because they have attitudes around that time,"

First of all, shoot me in the face.

But this is the stupidest idea ever. If you have a disease or medical condition, you aren't given more paid off days than those who don't. So why should something as dumb as a period allow such a thing?

I admit I'm not super sensitive to it because I don't suffer with it myself (birth control), but jesus people. Pop some pain pills and a couple Imodiums and go to freaking work. Or use sick days/vacation time.

quote:

The concept of menstrual leave started in Japan in the early 20th century. In the 1920s, Japanese labor unions started to demand leave (seiri kyuka) for their female workers. In 1947, a law was brought into force by the Japanese Labor Standards that allowed menstruating women to take days off work. Then a unique legislation of its kind, it is now found in a few countries. Debate continues as to whether it is a medical necessity or a discriminatory measure

quote:

In Indonesia, under the Labor Act of 1948, women have a right to two days of menstrual leave per month

Honestly, do you really want them around anyway? I bet if you cross-referenced "HR complaints" with the complainees cycle....you'd find statistical significance.

If they want to pile all their weekend days together, fine by me. Hell, I might like that for myself. 20 days on, 8 days off? Why not?

I'm female and I think it's nuts. I mean you have to be able to go to the bathroom. That's an OSHA or Fair Employment or some mandatory thing.
