Wife and I are moving there soon. Trying to figure out some neighborhoods to consider buying a house. I’ve used trulia and different crime maps, but they seem inconsistent.

We want to be less than 30 minutes from the beach and walking/bike/cheap Uber to local fare and bars. Safety is a primary concern.

Areas considering are:
Oakland Park
Hollywood- farthest south we want to go
Sunrise- absolute farthest west we want to go
Pompano- farthest north we want to go
Fort Lauderdale

Yes, I’m gonna become the next “Florida man.”

Thanks in advance

Friend of mine is on the Hollywood FL PD swat team. He’s been down there about 10 years so I guess he knows the area well.

He built his house in Pembroke Pines.

ETA: As another poster said, learn Spanish.

Some of my LSU friends moved to Hollywood and they love it. Be prepared for yard work 12 months a year.

I lived in Pompano Beach in the early 80's and it has gone wayyy downhill since then (it never was great-but Patrick Peterson is from there-yey). I loved Lighthouse Point, but couldn't afford it. Plantation used to be a good area, but my info is too dated now. Good luck.

I lived down there for 8 years. Based on what you laid out, I would look at Coral Springs, Coconut Creek or Pembroke Pines.

Main thing: decide if you actually want to make going to the beach a regular thing. If so, you need to live AT the beach. 30 minutes might sound close if you’re coming from somewhere land locked, but trust me you ain’t going to the beach often if ever living 30 minutes away.
